    Focusing on client protection

    Sun Life Grepa Financial Inc. (Sun Life Grepa) presented simple yet innovative customer-centric financial solutions amid the pandemic at the recent virtual YGC Executive Forum entitled Future Proofing 2021: YGC Businesses with a Vision.

    The company saw an increase in public awareness and appreciation for life insurance and health insurance.  Recent studies showed the need for health and protection has been highlighted as top 2 priority needs compared to before where it was only third or fourth priorities.

    Sun Life Grepa recorded an 8 percent increase year on year in 2020 in total insured lives despite the COVID-19 crisis. The overall picture shows this increase covering a younger generation in lower premium sizes.

    Income for the company’s health protection and life insurance products grew by 39 percent versus the same period in 2019, with the number of policies issued increasing by 93 percent in the same period.

    PNB appoints DDB-Optimax as digital marketing agency for 2021

    Philippine National Bank (PSE: PNB) has appointed integrated media agency Optimax Communications Group, Inc. (Optimax) of DDB Group Philippines (DDB) as its new digital marketing agency.

    DDB was named PNB’s new Digital Marketing Agency following a pitch in October last year. To support the engagement starting January 2021, DDB created a hybrid team that is tailor-fit for PNB: the PNB-Optimax team headed by Optimax General Manager Ela Federigan-Chua.

    The PNB and DDB-Optimax partnership is set to create a stronger digital marketing push for the bank’s credit card, retail banking, and remittance solutions, as well as its online banking channels.

    Citizen groups call for empowered ISPs vs child porn

    Consumer advocacy groups are urging government to empower telecommunications companies and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to work with all sectors “(I)n fighting the societal menace of Online Sexual Exploitation and Abuse of Children (OSEAC) instead of imposing more sanctions and even more regulations,” said CitizenWatch Philippines Co-Convenor Atty. Tim Abejo.

    The President and his Cabinet has directed legislators to prioritize bills that would expand the inter-agency council on child pornography, exempt trafficking of persons from the Anti-Wiretapping Law, and impose more responsibilities on tourism establishments and ISPs to stop child pornography.




    Under its ‘PlayItRight advocacy program, Globe Telecom has reported ongoing investments reaching US$2.7 million in their content filtering system blocking a total of 2,521 domains with child porn related content. It is also a partner of the “Kabataang Digital” project of the National Privacy Commission (NPC) providing age-appropriate support and helping children understand the nature of privacy and the implications of the digital environment on their privacy rights.

    Converge ICT Solutions Inc. for its part installed a firewall system and Secure Domain Name Solution to block websites with child pornography material and malicious content. The broadband provider coordinates with the Department of Information and Communications Technology, the National Telecommunications Commission and the Department of Social Welfare and Development to implement their Child Online Safeguarding Policy.

    Drive vs `fake’ LPGs strengthened

    Solane has renewed its call for LPG buyers to be vigilant against unlawfully refilled and marketed cylinders.

    According to Solane, only authorized and branded LPG dealers are guaranteed to supply genuine LPG products. These suppliers can be found in physical branches bearing the LPG brand’s name and government certifications inside their stores.

    Buyers can also verify if dealers are authorized by checking if the LPG tanks are Verified Solane – which would carry the important markings of an authenticated cylinder.

    Staying fit at SM Seaside City Cebu

    As part of its Stay Fit program to provide the community with a safe space for outdoor activities, the Skypark at SM Seaside City Cebu recently opened first-ever Roofdeck Ninja Obstacle Course in the Visayas in partnership with Pilipinas Obstacle Sports Federation and the United Vismin OCR (Obstacle Course Race) Community.

    This pop up facility includes an over 6 ft Wall with an Underwall, Through Wall, Pull ups, Monkey bars, Rings, Inclined Push Ups, Twister Rings,  Dips, Traverse Wall, an Inverted Wall, and Rope Climbs. Guided sessions are offered to the public at the 3F Amphitheater 2 beginning this February 13 and will be every Saturdays and Sundays at 5PM via pre-registration for limited slots.

    CHED, Rex Education launch Gawad Edukampyon Awards

    To highlight and recognize the outstanding efforts and resilience of higher education institutions (HEIs) throughout the challenges of the current times, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Rex Education have collaborated to launch the very first Gawad Edukampyon Awards.

    This inaugural award celebrates outstanding achievements and innovations by HEIs in the fields of Teaching and Learning, Research, and Public Service, and Community Engagement. Gawad Edukampyon aims to create an arena where different universities, colleges, teacher-training schools, and professional schools can share their experiences and best practices as we create, refine, and implement innovative programs that could lead to a “better” normal for education.

    Gawad Edukampyon awards was launched last January 30, 2020 through a Facebook live event that streamed on Rex Education and CHED’s social media pages. The launch was led by CHED Chairperson, J. Prospero De Vera III, DPA and Rex Education Chairman, Atty. Dominador Buhain. Also present were Rex CEO, Don Timothy Buhain; CHED Executive Director IV, Atty. Cinderella Filipina Benitez-Jaro; CHED International Affairs Director and Deputy Executive Director IV, Atty. Lily Freida Macabangun-Milla, CESO IV; Rex Chief External Affairs Officer, Danda Crimelda Buhain and CHED TWG on Flexible Learning member, Edizon Fermin, PhD. It was followed by a ceremonial signing of the statement of cooperation, indicating the formalization and official launch of the call for entries for the awards.
