Alex Gonzaga has done a lot of growing up over the past few months.
After opening up about her and husband Mikee Morada’s difficult journey of pregnancy and loss, Alex has candidly shared how the experience, coupled with facing public backlash, has shaped her perspective.
“It’s part of the consequence of my being childish and immature then,” Alex said at the Christmas party of the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEED) held at RAMPA in Quezon City.
“What’s important, my husband and family remind me, is you know your mistakes and you’re trying to improve, trying your best not to repeat them. And we see that you’ve changed for the better… I feel I’ve matured… I can’t forever be a teener, forever a jerk.”
Now 36, Alex has chosen to put showbiz on the back burner to focus on family and Mikee’s political aspirations. Her husband is running for vice mayor of Lipa, Batangas, in the 2025 midterm elections.
“Of course, I’m thankful,” Mikee said, acknowledging Alex’s sacrifices. “My wife and I are trying to have a baby. I don’t want to lose focus either… Family is our priority.”
Alex echoed his sentiments: “Starting a family, building a family is tough.”
Beyond the campaign trail, Alex has taken charge of decorating and furnishing their home in Batangas.
Alex also admitted she has toned down her antics and become more mindful of her behavior compared to her younger years.
Mikee noted, “Alex will always be Alex… But she’s more careful now.”
“It’s only to him that I’ve been naughty,” quipped Alex.
Despite stepping back from the limelight, Alex remains one of the most followed and subscribed vloggers in the country.
“Alex has consistently been one of the most followed and subscribed vloggers, and still gaining more subscriptions,” Mikee shared. “I was there courting her when she started vlogging… Up to now, she edits and sits through them all by herself. Seeing her do that makes me proud.”
For now, Alex enjoys being wife and vlogger. While she’s open to exploring politics in the future, Mikee hopes she stays in showbiz.
“I’m not saying it with finality… As of the moment, I enjoy supporting Mikee in his bid,” Alex reiterated.
