MQuest Artists Agency (MQAA) presents a rare and exciting opportunity for both aspiring and seasoned actors: summer acting workshops led by none other than Direk Rahyan Carlos, one of the Philippines’ top acting coaches.
With a career that began in 1997, Rahyan Carlos has made a mark in film and television as a respected director, screenwriter and acting mentor. He’s known for his work on iconic Filipino films like “Shake, Rattle & Roll 8,” the supernatural thriller “Pamahiin,” and the award-winning indie film “Ringgo: The Dog Shooter.” His television credits include standout series such as “Florinda,” “Lovespell” (ABS-CBN) and “Regal Shocker” (TV5), showcasing his wide-ranging creative talent.
Beyond directing, Carlos is a trailblazer in the acting world. He trained under legendary Hollywood acting coach Ivana Chubbuck, the mentor of such award winners such as Halle Berry, Brad Pitt and Charlize Theron, and is the only Filipino officially certified to teach the Chubbuck Technique in the Philippines. For more than 25 years, he has coached countless award-winning actors, inspiring performers both locally and internationally.
“The Chubbuck Technique is about using inner work,” he says.
This summer, he brings his mastery of the Chubbuck Technique to the MQAA workshops, a method rooted in emotional truth and personal transformation, turning real-life pain into powerful performances.
“I tell that to directors. Actors are collaborators. You are not commander in chief,” said Direk Rahyan.
“When actors are humbled and willing to be trained, then magic happens.”
Whether you’re stepping onto the stage for the first time or looking to elevate your craft, these workshops promise a deep dive into the art and psychology of acting not just for tyros but also for vets.
“‘Di kami nagco-compete. We are open sa ibang artista to train with us,” added the director.
Participants will also get the chance to be considered for the MQAA Artists Registry, opening doors to potential opportunities in the entertainment industry.
