Tony Labrusca recently expressed that his roles in the Sinag Maynila entry “What You Did” is the project he’s most proud of, calling it “my best acting piece by far.”
In “What You Did,” Labrusca portrays dual characters, Arvin and Ace Espiritu, dealing with childhood trauma and the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. The film, directed by Joan Lopez-Flores in her debut as a full-length feature director, holds special significance for Labrusca as he navigates the complexities of the entertainment landscape while reflecting on his personal experiences.
When asked about abuse and harassment in the entertainment industry, Tony opened up about his discomfort regarding such discussions. The actor expressed that while these topics are crucial, he prefers to focus on his work and the opportunities he has to continue acting. He said at this point in his career, he is just grateful for the opportunity to continue working.
“I’m just happy to still be working and landing jobs at this point in my career,” he stated, especially thankful for his role in “What You Did,” a film directed by Joan Lopez-Flores, marking her debut as a full-length feature director in the Sinag Maynila film festival. Lopez-Flores is the first woman to direct an entry in this prestigious festival. She co-founded The Jumpcat Experiment, a production company that has produced various successful projects, including commercials and short films.
Labrusca’s reflections come in the wake of his own experiences with allegations of sexual harassment. He noted that while he has endured trauma from these accusations, he has moved forward without harboring anger. His focus remains on his craft and the stories he can tell through his performances, as he navigates the complexities of the entertainment landscape.
