The magic of ‘Everything About My Wife’

DENNIS TRILLO, Sam Milby and Jennylyn Mercado join forces for “Everything About My Wife,” which is based on a popular rom-com that has been adapted in various countries, including Italy, Mexico, India, Chile, Vietnam, South Korea, and Spain.

The story revolves around Dom (Dennis) and Imo (Jennylyn), who started out as lovers but ended up married. After seven years, Dom finds himself unhappily married and yearning for an escape. In a moment of desperation, Dom seeks help from a notorious womanizer, Miguel (Sam), to seduce his wife. However, as Miguel and Imo grow closer, Dom realizes he has made the gravest mistake of his life when Miguel unexpectedly falls in love with Imo. Despite Miguel’s growing affection and friendship, Imo discovers the scheme and feels betrayed by her husband. Heartbroken, she decides to give Dom what he wants — an end to their marriage. Yet, as they part ways, their love becomes undeniable.

The film has enjoyed commercial and critical successes in many of its previous versions. Notably, its 2008 Argentine adaptation, “Un novio para mi mujer,” was a box office hit, and its 2012 South Korean version, “All About My Wife,” became one of the highest-grossing films in Korea that year. Each adaptation maintains the story’s core message but differs in how the protagonists resolve their conflicts.

“The magic of ‘Everything About My Wife’ is the universality of its theme and how love and commitment are discussed in all of its iterations. That story resonates in many countries around the world, just as it does in our own. When we talk about commitment and marriage, we touch on an aspect of our identity as people who place great importance on these subjects as part of our culture,” said director Real Florido.

CreaZion Studios CEO RJ San Agustin, known for backing successful projects like Isang Himala, co-produced with Unitel Straight Shooters, continues to focus on producing stories that resonate with Filipino audiences. “It has always been our mission to find stories that enrich the audience’s worldview and inspire our viewers,” San Agustin shared.

As of this writing, early reactions from moviegoers have praised the film’s writing, treatment, and Florido’s direction. Louis Flororita, a Facebook user, expressed his excitement: “NAKAKABALIW siya dahil sa mga eksenang luluha/lumuluha ka na ay biglang patatawanin ka — and as in several times!!!”

Mireille, a commenter on X.com, said: “The movie is so entertaining — nakangiti ka, then bigla kang pakikiligin, tapos maiinis, tapos iiyak. The movie is a rollercoaster of emotions. Maganda ang storyline, hindi ka mawawalan.”

In a Reddit forum, medium_food278 discussed the increasing realism of Filipino films: “Napansin ko after watching the recent Filipino movies this year na they tackle modern issues while at the same time may grasp talaga ng reality and practicality na nangyayari sa buhay. Our Filipino movies are really improving in a lot of ways, which the younger audiences would especially benefit from.”

“Everything About My Wife” is written by Rona Co and produced by CreaZion Studios and GMA Pictures. It is currently showing in cinemas nationwide and at the Manila International Film Festival at the TCL Chinese Center.
