TBA Studios unveils its upcoming film lineup for the remainder of the year, featuring two highly anticipated titles: the surprise US box office hit, “Sound of Freedom,” and the South Korean dark comedy, “Cobweb.”
E.A. Rocha, the CEO of TBA Studios, expressed excitement, stating, “We are delighted to present these two exceptional films to our Filipino viewers this year. These movies promise to captivate and immerse audiences with their compelling narratives and distinctive cinematic flair.”
“Sound of Freedom” is a gripping crime drama that chronicles the journey of former US government agent Tim Ballard as he rescues kidnapped and enslaved children from sex traffickers in Colombia. The film boasts an outstanding ensemble cast led by Jim Caviezel and Mira Sorvino, supported by Bill Camp, John Rhys-Davies, and Michael Roark. Alejandro Monteverde is both writer and director. Since its release in the United States over Independence Day weekend earlier this year, “Sound of Freedom” has exceeded all expectations, grossing a remarkable $181.9 million domestically and earning the title of the highest-grossing independent film of the year.
Premiering at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, “Cobweb” is a darkly humorous tale set in the 1970s, following a director haunted by his obsession with reshooting the ending of his latest film. The film descends into chaos as a web of complications entangles the film set.
Notably, it stars Song Kang-ho, renowned for his award-winning performance in the critically acclaimed “Parasite” (2019). The supporting cast features familiar faces from the South Korean entertainment scene, including Lim Soo-jung (“A Tale Of Two Sisters”), Oh Jung-se (“It’s Okay Not To Be Okay”), Jeon Yeo-been (“Vincenzo”), Jang Young-nam (“It’s Okay Not To Be Okay”), and Krystal Jung (of K-pop girl group f(x) fame and the romantic comedy “Sweet & Sour”). The film is both written and directed by Kim Jee-woon, known for his previous works such as “A Tale Of Two Sisters” (2003), “A Bittersweet Life” (2005), and “The Good, The Bad, The Weird” (2008). Barunson E&A, the same studio behind “Parasite,” serves as the producer and global distributor of the film.
TBA Studios will exclusively distribute both films locally. “Sound of Freedom” will hit theaters in partnership with Axinite on September 20, while “Cobweb” will open on October 4.
