Seasoned stage actors step into the roles of Shrek, Fiona, Donkey and Lord Farquaad as the beloved characters bring their swampy adventures to life in “Shrek The Musical,” opening October 31, 2025, at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.
Award-winning actor and director Jamie Wilson takes on the role of Shrek, the gruff yet tender-hearted ogre determined to defend his swamp. Celebrating 45 years onstage, Wilson brings a formidable track record, including a BroadwayWorld Asia Award for “Matilda The Musical” and an Aliw Award for “Run For Your Wife.” He also portrayed Arturo Banlaoi in all three sold-out runs of “Ang Huling El Bimbo” and is set to appear in the upcoming Philippine staging of “Into the Woods” as Cinderella’s distant father and the royal steward. Offstage, he has directed concerts such as “Ely Buendia: A Night at the Theater,” proving a career as layered as, well, onions.
Krystal Kane transforms into the quick-witted Princess Fiona. A theater kid since age nine, Kane began in “Aspects of Love” and “The Sound of Music.” After studying musical theater in New York, she returned to Manila for roles in “Spring Awakening” and “Tabing Ilog: The Musical.” Following a four-year break to pursue photography and styling, Kane made a comeback in “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” and is set to star in “Side Show.”
Topper Fabregas brings energy and charm to Donkey, Shrek’s loyal companion. A founding member of Red Turnip Theater, Fabregas has directed and starred in productions like “Tribes,” “Rabbit Hole” and “The Last Five Years.” He also earned critical acclaim for roles in “Come From Away,” “Angels in America” and “Ang Huling El Bimbo.” His film work in “Sila-Sila” won him Best Supporting Actor at the Cinema One Originals Awards, highlighting his range across stage and screen.
Alfredo Reyes, known to many as Bibo, plays the pint-sized but power-hungry Lord Farquaad. He has appeared in numerous international musicals, including “In the Heights,” “The Bridges of Madison County,” “Waitress” and “The Band’s Visit,” all produced by Atlantis Theatrical. He has also toured Asia with “Saturday Night Fever” and “Avenue Q,”and later starred as Young Hector in “Ang Huling El Bimbo.” A graduate of the Atlantic Acting School in New York City, Alfredo received the Practical Aesthetics Full Scholarship Award.
“Shrek The Musical” is based on the DreamWorks Animation film and the book by William Steig, with book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire and music by Jeanine Tesori. Originally produced on Broadway by DreamWorks Theatricals and Neal Street Productions, the musical is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI), New York.
