SPORTING a sleeker look, Gerald Anderson makes his big teleserye comeback in ABS-CBN’s newest action-drama-suspense series “Sins of the Father,” which premieres on June 23 at 9:30 p.m.
Led by internationally acclaimed actors, the crime thriller features Volpi Cup (Venice International Film Festival) winner John Arcilla in a pivotal role opposite Gerald, as well as another acting heavyweight — Lotlot de Leon (All Lights India International Film Festival, Gawad Urian, Eddys best actress), who plays Gerald’s mother in the series.
“Sins of the Father” follows the story of Samuel Trinidad, a bank manager whose life takes a dark turn following the mysterious death of his estranged father, who was entangled in a large-scale scam. The series explores the personal and social consequences of financial fraud, a timely issue that continues to affect many Filipino families.
Gerald, now marking his 19th year in the industry, said the show aligns with his advocacy of doing socially relevant projects.
“Lagi kong nirerequest sa ABS na pag may proyekto ako ay sana may social awareness at sana may mapupulot na aral ‘yung mga tao pag pinanood nila because maraming distractions these days. We have scamming, we have social media, everything,” he said.
Jessy Mendiola, meanwhile, reunites with Gerald more than a decade after they co-starred in the 2011 drama “Budoy.” The series marks her first major acting project since taking a break from showbiz for six years to take care of family.
“Natutuwa ako kasi no’ng last ko siyang nakatrabaho ang babata pa namin. Ang dami nang nangyari sa mga buhay namin and I’m just really happy to be working with Gerald again,” Jessy said.
The series is under acclaimed directors FM Reyes and Bjoy Balagtas, with Reyes underscoring the project’s relevance.
“Hindi naman kaila na that’s what’s been happening sa hirap ng buhay, maraming manloloko, and I think malaking ginagampanan no’n yung request ni Gerald na gagawa po ako ng project na may social relevance. His concern for the society is not just for showbizness. During moments of disasters you can see him saving people. It comes out naturally,” Direk FM said.
Direk Bjoy added that the narrative delves deep into themes of redemption and generational accountability.
“It’s somehow a person’s journey to correct the sins of the past, the sins of the father, and how he can change his today and also the future of his family,” she explained.
Also joining the powerhouse cast are Shaina Magdayao, Francine Diaz, Seth Fedelin, JC De Vera, RK Bagatsing, Joko Diaz, and Tirso Cruz III. Supporting them are Soliman Cruz, Malou Crisologo, Nico Antonio, Jerald Napoles, Alex Medina, JV Kapunan, LA Santos, Jeremiah Lisbo, Elyson De Dios, Clave Sun and Cailey Magno.
Produced by JRB Creative Production, “Sins of the Father” is under the supervision of business unit head Julie Anne R. Benitez, with Cenon Palomares as head writer and Dindo Perez as creative head.
The series premieres on multiple platforms: Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z, TV5, iWant, and TFC, beginning June 23 at 9:30 p.m.
