“Salum,” a Hiligaynon full-length film directed by TM Malones, and “Champ Green,” a Mindanaoan short film directed by Clyde Cuizon Gamale, were awarded the top prizes in their respective categories at the second edition of the Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival.
“Salum” won four Puregold CinePanalo trophies in the full-length category, including Panalong Pelikula, Panalo sa Production Design, Panalo sa Sound Design, and Panalo sa Musical Scoring, alongside a cash prize of P250,000. “Champ Green,” in the student shorts category, received five trophies — Panalong Maikling Pelikula, Panalong Pangalawang Aktor for Sol Eugenio, Panalo sa Kwento, Panalo sa Brand Intrusion, and the Mowelfund Special Citation — plus P100,000 cash.
Additionally, “Champ Green” earned film equipment from sponsors such as MFP Rentals, Kase Philippines, MQ Group, Nanlite Philippines, and Sieztech Enterprize. The film also received an extra P25,000 for winning Panalo sa Brand Intrusion, a prize also awarded to “Journeyman” and “G!” in the full-length category. “Checkmate” and “Taympers”tied for the Pinakapanalong Promosyon ng Pelikula, with each film receiving additional sponsorships for their promotions.

“Tigkiliwi,” a Hiligaynon film directed by Tara Illenberger, took home seven trophies in the full-length category, including Panalong Karangalan Mula sa Hurado and Panalo sa Kwento for its screenplay. It also swept the acting categories with Panalong Aktres awarded to Ruby Ruiz, and Panalong Pangalawang Aktor to Jeffrey Jiruma. In an interesting twist, the Panalong Aktor award was shared between JP Larroder for “Tigkiliwi” and Khalil Ramos for “Olsen’s Day.” Both “Journeyman” and “Olsen’s Day” were awarded Panalo sa Cinematography, while JP Habac of “Olsen’s Day” won the Panalong Direktor award. “Journeyman,” directed by Christian Paolo and Dominic Lat, earned six awards, including Panalo sa International Jury, Panalo sa Cinematography (shared with “Olsen’s Day”), Panalo sa Film Poster, MTRCB Special Award for Responsableng Paglikha, Panalo sa Brand Intrusion, and the Puregold Always Panalo Film award, which it shared with “Fleeting” by Catsi Catalan.
In the student shorts category, “Uwian,” directed by Vhan Marco Molacruz, won five awards, including Panalong Direktor, Panalo sa Musical Scoring, Panalo sa Production Design, Panalong Aktres for Geraldine Villamil, and Panalong Pangalawang Aktres for Uzziel Delamide. Other notable student shorts included “Dela Cruz, Juan P.” by Sean Rafael Verdejo, which won Panalong Karangalan Mula sa Hurado, and “SamPie” by Ira Corinne Esguerra, which received the Puregold Always Panalo Film award.
The awards were decided by festival director Christopher Cahilig, festival chair Ivy Hayagan-Piedad, Republic Creative Creations representative Sonny Bautista, directors Emmanuel Dela Cruz and Victor Villanueva and film critic Lito Zulueta.
The festival saw increased grants this year, with P3,000,000 allocated for full-length films and P150,000 for student shorts, and was supported by organizations such as Terminal Six Post, MFP Rentals, and the Mowelfund Film Institute.
Additional awards included Panalong Ensemble, given to “Tigkiliwi” in the full-length category and “Sine-Sine” in the student shorts category, and Panalong Kwento, awarded to Tara Illenberger for “Tigkiliwi” and Clyde Cuizon Gamale for “Champ Green.” Panalo sa Production Design went to Kyle Fermindoza for “Salum” and Andrea Jayne Perang for “Uwian.” Panalo sa Musical Scoring was awarded to Armor Rapista for “Salum” and Len Calvo for “Uwian.”
In Panalo sa Editing, Vanessa Ubas de Leon was recognized for “Co-Love” in the full-length category, and Jose Andy Sales won for “G!” in the student shorts category. Panalo sa Sound Design went to Fatima Nerikka Salim and Immanuel Verona for “Salum” and Elian Idioma for “Dela Cruz, Juan P.” The Panalong Awitin award was given to “DI KO PINILI” by Kiko Salazar, performed by KD Estrada for “Co-Love”, and “Suga, Camera, Saad” by Jonathan Rey Sartorio and Lloyd Martin Villacortes Arce, performed by Jonathan Rey “ROTT” Sartorio for “Sine-Sine.”
Panalo sa Brand Intrusion was awarded to “Journeyman” for 555 Sardines and Lucky Me! and “Champ Green” for Bear Brand, while “G!” won for Chuckie. Panalo sa Film Poster went to “Journeyman” and “Checkmate” by Alexie Nicole Pardo. Pinakapanalong Promosyon ng Pelikula went to “Checkmate” and “Taympers.”
In Responsableng Paglikha, “Journeyman” was recognized, along with “Dan, En Pointe” by Adelbert Abrigonda, “Sine-Sine” by Roniño Dolim, and “1… 2… Strike!!!” by Kenneth Flores in the student shorts category. The Mowelfund Special Citation went to “Olsen’s Day” and “Champ Green,” while the Panalo sa International Jury award went to “Journeyman.”
The Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival will continue screening “Salum,” “Champ Green,” and other winning films at the Gateway Cineplex 18, Cubao, Quezon City, until the festival concludes on March 25. Regular tickets are priced at P250, with discounts available for students, PWDs, seniors, and certain organization members.
