COMEDIENNE Rufa Mae Quinto yesterday surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) following an arrest warrant issued by a Pasay court in connection with her alleged involvement in an investment scam linked to a skin care company.

Quinto had arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 at around 5 a.m. with her family onboard a Philippine Air Lines flight from San Francisco, California.

NBI Director Jaime Santiago has yet to provide additional information on Quinto’s case but NBI NAIA Chief Jimmy De Leon said the actress underwent a medico-legal examination before she was taken to a Pasay court.

She later went to the NBI with her lawyer, Mary Louise Reyes, before being brought to the Pasay RTC, where an arrest warrant for 14 counts of violating Section 8 of the Securities Regulation Code was issued. This provision prohibits individuals from acting as brokers or associated persons unless registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Quinto previously denied involvement in the alleged investment scam tied to Dermacare-Beyond Skin Care Solutions, claiming she was merely an endorser and did not engage in solicitation activities.
