Borracho Productions’ “Spring in Prague,” starring Paolo Gumabao and  and Czech actress Sara Sandeva, revolves around the deep love between a Filipino resort owner (played by Gumabao) and his guest (played by Sandeva).

It also showcases the beautiful Puerto Galera beach, Czechoslovakia’s famous Charles Bridge, and other scenic spots.  But more than that, it celebrates the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two capital cities: Manila and Prague.

This, its producer, lawyer Ferdinand Topacio  told media in a recent preview held at Uptown Mall.

“I want it to be  more than a romcom. I want it to have a deeper meaning. The film is  an allegory of the battle between communism and democracy. It started during the Prague spring of 1968 (when a threatened USSR crushed Czechoslovakia’s push towards democracy). Then, the 1989s Velvet Revolution in Bratislava Prague ended the communist party,” Topacio said.
Some the film’s characters speak about these historical events that shaped Czechoslovakia in some of the confrontation scenes.

The film’s timeline – from winter to spring in Prague – also talks of a long journey of struggle and discovery for the two lovers.

“Spring in Prague” will have its world premiere at the ASEAN Filmfest in Prague on Sept. 5.
For its next project, Borracho Productions will present a sexy sci fi horror film on the dangers of artificial intelligence.
