GMA Integrated News is preparing for comprehensive election coverage through “GMA Masterclass: Road to the 2025 Elections.”

Hosted by Pia Arcangel, the event was attended by around 200 GMA journalists and staff last February 8 at GMA Network Center. The masterclass included sessions with Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chairman Atty. George Erwin Garcia, LENTE Executive Director Atty. Ona Caritos, and GMA Integrated News Research Senior Manager Karen Tiongson-Mayrina.

Atty. Garcia emphasized COMELEC’s strict enforcement of regulations, including the removal of illegal campaign materials through Operation Baklas and efforts to combat vote-buying. “Our law department will conduct investigations to determine if charges should be filed,” he said.

Atty. Caritos discussed the potential issues to watch out for in the elections, including the distribution of social welfare programs during campaigns. “They will also monitor ASR or abuse of state resources,” she noted.

Tiongson-Mayrina focused on voter demographics and turnout, stressing, “Voter turnout is crucial because it becomes an advantage if registered voters actually vote.”

Oliver Victor B. Amoroso, Senior Vice President of GMA Integrated News, emphasized the network’s commitment to truthful election coverage, stating, “We will do our best with the help of our partners to live up to our commitment to an honest and truthful election coverage.”

In May 2024, the first leg of the “GMA Masterclass” explored the impact of AI on politics. GMA Regional TV and Synergy also launched the “Eleksyon 2025 Dapat Totoo Series,” focusing on combating misinformation, with events in Mindanao and the Visayas.
