It’s common for people to think that scintillating actress Rhian Ramos is “sosyal.” Not true, said the Kapuso star.
Rhian, who is the host of GMA’s newest show, “Where In Manila,” said it’s a common misconception that she’s fancy. On the contrary, the self-confessed foodie says betamax, fishballs, and isaw are her go-to snacks on the set of her projects. In fact, between her and beau Sam Versoza, she has the tougher stomach when it comes to street food.
“Mas kaya ko pala,” she said with a chuckle.
And she’s not averse to raiding the outskirts of the metro to find the best food — not just gourmet but also street food — to serve to viewers in her weekly lifestyle show, which will feature where to go, where to eat, and what to discover all around Metro Manila, not just the city of Manila.
Sam Versoza, whose show Dear SV takes a backseat as he campaigns for Manila mayor, throws his full trust behind Rhian. At the press con for “Where in Manila” last Thursday at the Winford Hotel ballroom in Manila, Sam said he knows hosting a lifestyle show is one of his girlfriend’s fortes, and he supports her all the way — the same way Rhian has been supporting his campaign from the beginning.
“I know you got this, boo,” he told Rhian.
When it comes to their relationship, the hardworking duo admits that time has become scarce as they navigate their busy schedules. Aside from When In Manila, Rhian has her hot-selling Bas Bakes cookies and will be featured in the upcoming Bakery Fest 2025. The event, organized by the Filipino Chinese Bakery Association, Inc. (FCBAI) headed by Christopher Ah, will take place this March 6 to 8 at the World Trade Center in Pasay. Rhian, who was tagged as the “sexy baker” after photos of her baking in a bikini went viral, gladly accepted the invitation from Ah.
“I’m very shocked. I’m happy because the baking community is going to accept a newbie like me,” she excitedly said.
While Rhian juggles her career and personal life, she and Sam strive to find time for each other. She admits that they have danced around the topic of marriage. It’s the first time, she revealed, that she has thought about marriage seriously — as she sees in Sam something that sets him apart from her previous relationships. Call it serendipity that, during a date in Intramuros, she and Sam witnessed a wedding in a church and randomly took a photo of it. Rhian later found out from her mom that it was the same place where Rhian’s parents had tied the knot.
“I can’t believe na I’m again unknowingly taking a picture lang at para sa’kin isang random location, but it’s actually quite meaningful pala in my life and my family,” she related.
When we teased her about whether she’s found out where in Manila the best place to get married is, she said with a smile that it would be a good topic for her show.
“Pwede nga,” she said.
Meanwhile, Sam is totally smitten with his sweetheart. He said that aside from being gorgeous, Rhian is sweet, smart, and down-to-earth. She also bakes the most amazing cookies, added Sam, and Rhian has met Sam’s kids from a previous relationship.
“Minsan nagluto na si Rhian for them. Nag dinner na kami,” informed Sam.
Is Rhian ready to be Manila’s first lady?
“I never saw myself in that line,” she answered. “I never imagined in my wildest dreams. Never ko siyang naging dream talaga. If may makakita sa’kin in that way, I think it will be very flattering for me because hindi ko naisip sa sarili ko,” she said. “Parang naisip ko tao lang ako, just like everyone else. I go through my own ups and downs and mistakes and whatever. Never ko inexpect sa sarili ko din to. Be perfect, ganon, syempre minsan ‘yung ine-expect natin from our leaders. So I can’t really answer if I’m ready or not. It’s really up to other people. Thank goodness it’s going to be their choice, not mine. I hope that at the end of the day, yung will na lang ni God ‘yung mangyayari. It’s up to God.”
“Where in Manila” airs every Saturday at 11:30 p.m.
