The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) said yesterday that the film “The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma,” directed by Darryl Yap, is not currently under review due to incomplete documentary requirements.

In a statement released Wednesday, the board explained that the registration unit could not accept the materials submitted by the film’s distributor, PinoyFlix Films and Entertainment Production, because three required documents were missing.

“To set the record straight, the MTRCB Registration Unit could not accept the materials submitted by the representative of Pinoyflix because the Legal Affairs Division required the distributor to provide three specific requirements such as Certificate or Clearance of No Pending Criminal, Civil, or Administrative Case from the Regional Trial Court, the Department of Justice, and the Office of the City Prosecutor,” the statement read.

The MTRCB said this is a standard procedural requirement and they have already formally communicated with PinoyFlix Films regarding the missing documentation.

The statement, signed by MTRCB Vice Chairperson Atty. Paulino E. Cases Jr., said the review process is part of the MTRCB’s efforts to ensure that all films comply with Presidential Decree No. 1986 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR).

“The MTRCB will not tolerate any misinformation or false narratives that seek to discredit the agency and undermine its mandate,” said Atty. Cases. “Any attempt to deliberately mislead the public will be addressed in accordance with the law.”

The board reassured the public that the review process is both fair and transparent.

“All applications are reviewed by a committee of three board members, with a second review committee, composed of five members, if necessary. Each film undergoes a rigorous review process to ensure it meets the standards set by Presidential Decree No. 1986,” they added.

Director and producer Darryl Yap had posted on social media Tuesday that “The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma” was under review with the MTRCB.
