HBO has unveiled the young actors who will take on the iconic roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley in its upcoming original television series based on J.K. Rowling’s bestselling books.
Screen newcomers Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout have been cast as Harry, Hermione and Ron, respectively, following an extensive search.
“After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen,” said showrunner and executive producer Francesca Gardiner and director/executive producer Mark Mylod in a joint statement. “We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”
The series, described as a faithful, decade-long adaptation of Rowling’s novels, will stream exclusively on HBO Max — including in upcoming launch territories such as Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom. The original Warner Bros. films will remain available globally.
Francesca Gardiner will write and executive produce the series. Mark Mylod will direct multiple episodes and serve as executive producer. The production is a collaboration between HBO, Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television.
Executive producers also include J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films.
