The Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) has announced the nominees for the 7th Eddys (Entertainment Editors’ Choice) during an event at Valencia Events Place in Quezon City, which was also streamed live on The Eddys Facebook Page.
The Best Picture nominees are “About Us But Not About Us” by The IdeaFirst Company, Octoberian Films, and Quantum Films; “Firefly” by GMA Pictures and GMA Public Affairs; “GomBurZa” by Jesuit Communications, MQuest Ventures, and CMB Film Services; “Iti Mapukpukaw” by Project 8, GMA News and Public Affairs, and Terminal Six Post; and “Mallari” by Mentorque Productions and Clever Minds Inc.
The Best Actress nominees include Kathryn Bernardo (“A Very Good Girl”), Charlie Dizon (“Third World Romance”), Julia Montes (“Five Breakups And A Romance”), Marian Rivera (“Rewind”), Vilma Santos (“When I Met You In Tokyo”), and Maricel Soriano (“In His Mother’s Eyes”).
The Best Actor nominees are Elijah Canlas (“Keys to the Heart”), Dingdong Dantes (“Rewind”), Cedrick Juan (“GomBurZa”), Piolo Pascual (“Mallari”), Alden Richards (“Five Breakups And A Romance”), and Romnick Sarmenta (“About Us But Not About Us”).
The Best Director nominees are Derick Cabrido (“Mallari”), Pepe Diokno (“GomBurZa”), Zig Dulay (“Firefly”), Jun Robles Lana (“About Us But Not About Us”), and Carl Joseph Papa (“Iti Mapukpukaw”). The awards ceremony will be held on July 7 at 7 p.m. at the Ceremonial Hall, Marriott Grand Ballroom of Newport World Resorts in Pasay City, with a delayed telecast on AllTV on July 14 at 10 p.m. The event will be directed by Eric Quizon, with Brightlight Productions as the line producer. The 7th Eddys is supported by major sponsor Globe Telecom and partners Newport World Resorts, ALLTV, and Sound Check, along with Beautéderm by Rhea-Anicoche Tan, Unilab, Camille Villar, former Ilocos Sur Governor Chavit Singson, and Echo Jam.
Additional nominees include Best Supporting Actress: Dolly de Leon (“Keys to the Heart”), Alessandra de Rossi (“Firefly”), Gloria Diaz (“Mallari”), Gladys Reyes (“Apag”), and Ruby Ruiz (“Langitngit”); Best Supporting Actor: Enchong Dee (“GomBurZa”), Keempee de Leon (“Here Comes The Groom”), Nanding Josef (“Oras de Peligro”), Roderick Paulate (“In His Mother’s Eyes”), and JC Santos (“Mallari”); Best Screenplay: Angeli Atienza (“Firefly”), Jun Robles Lana (“About Us But Not About Us”), Carl Joseph E. Papa (“Iti Mapukpukaw”), Rodolfo Vera and Pepe Diokno (“GomBurZa”), and Enrico Santos (“Mallari”).

The event will honor new Eddys Movie Icons: Nova Villa, Leo Martinez, Lito Lapid, Eva Darren, and Gina Alajar for their contributions to the Philippine film industry.
Special awards include the Isah V. Red Award for philanthropy to Luis “Chavit” Singson and Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, the Joe Quirino Award to Korina Sanchez, and the Manny Pichel Award to Ronald Constantino. The Rising Producer Circle Award goes to Mentorque Productions.
The Box Office Hero award will be presented to Dingdong Dantes, Marian Rivera, Alden Richards, Julia Montes, Kathryn Bernardo, and Piolo Pascual.
A posthumous award will honor Carlo J. Caparas for his contributions to the industry.
