Ruru levels up

ACTOR Ruru Madrid is determined to raise the stakes in the action and drama sequences for the next chapter of the GMA primetime series “Lolong: Bayani ng Bayan.

The much-awaited new season of the action-adventure series is projected to have bigger action scenes and even more compelling drama, as Ruru, who has proven his dexterity and adeptness in the action genre in the first season, is expected to show how compelling he is in drama, coming off his big screen triumph and 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival Best Supporting Actor win for his performance in “Green Bones.”

As it makes a “dambuhalang” comeback on television, “Lolong” (Ruru) dreams of a world where everyone is equal, regardless of their differences. But just as the people’s hero begins to live in peace with his fellow Atubaw, tragedy strikes on his wedding day. To save his beloved Elsie (Shaira) and his people, Lolong must embark on a perilous quest to recover the legendary Ubtao, a gem with miraculous powers.

Ruru will be joined by the well-loved characters of Shaira Diaz, Rochelle Pangilinan, Paul Salas, Mikoy Morales, Alma Concepcion, Maui Taylor, and Jean Garcia in the new season. And to make it more exciting, the cast gets bigger with the addition of acting heavyweights John Arcilla, Rocco Nacino, Martin del Rosario, Klea Pineda, and Tetchie Agbayani.

The show’s powerhouse ensemble also boasts of Victor Neri, Nonie Buencamino, Rodjun Cruz, Pancho Magno, Michelle Dee, Nikki Valdez, Bernadette Allyson, Boom Labrusca, Jan Marini, Gerard Pizarras, Archi Adamos, Nicco Manalo, Nikko Natividad, John Clifford, Waynona Collings, Rubi Rubi, Inah Evans, Barbiengot Forteza, Joe Vargas, Karenina Haniel, and Leo Martinez. Child actors Ryrie Sophia and Drey Lampago are being introduced.

Part of GMA’s 75th year celebration, “Lolong: Bayani ng Bayan” is under the helm of King Mark Baco and Rommel Penesa.

It airs weeknights after “24 Oras” beginning January 20.
