Fans of Filipino literature and theater enthusiasts alike are in for a treat as Ricky Lee’s best-selling novel “Para Kay B” is set to make its way to the stage in an exciting theatrical adaptation.
The much-anticipated production of “Para Kay B,” presented by LA Production House and Fire & Ice Live, will run from March 14 to 30 at the Doreen Black Box Theater at Ateneo de Manila University.
Adapted for the stage by Eljay Castro Deldoc, a three-time first prize winner of the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards, and directed by Yong Tapang, Jr., who previously helmed the 2019 film “Doon sa Isang Sulok,” the theatrical version of “Para Kay B” delves into the complexities of love through the intertwined lives of characters Lucas, Bessie, Ester, Sandra, Irene, and Erica.
Direk Yong explains why this production resonates with many: “People need to see ‘Para Kay B’ because it speaks to a lot of generations. It is a literary masterpiece that served as a roadmap to a generation looking for love, loss, moral, and social issues.
“Love letter din namin ito sa mga manunulat at sa artists na patuloy naghahanap ng mga kwento,” he added.
Liza Diño, CEO of Fire & Ice Live and actress portraying Ester in the play, shared her excitement about the project, stating, “Fire & Ice Live is about creating experiences and amplifying stories of the unseen, and ‘Para Kay B’ embodies that — it’s a raw, witty, and unfiltered exploration of love’s unpredictability, the heartbreaks we endure, and the rare but magical exceptions to the rule. Being part of this production, both as an actress and as a producer, feels like coming home to a story that has touched so many hearts. Playing Ester is deeply personal, as it mirrors my own journey of discovering love beyond expectations.”
The production is co-produced by Fire & Ice Live and is in partnership with Tungo at Liwanag sa Teatro Inc. The Arete serves as the official venue partner. Audiences can catch the play on the following dates: March 14 – 7p.m., March 15 and 16 – 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., March 21 – 7 p.m., March 22 and 23 – 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., March 28 – 7 p.m. and March 29 and 30 – 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
