Samantha Ashley Villar Lo and Sam Valdes Ajdani, won the Century Tuna Superbods 2020 pageant in the prerecorded finals, that had the contestants following health protocols against the coronavirus, and was streamed on Facebook last Saturday, September 19.
Lo, 27, and Ajdani, 30, bested the original field of 32 contestants who were trimmed down to 8 male and 8 female finalists last Saturday.
They each won P500,000, along with other prizes, including a Gold’s Gym membership and a year’s supply of food and health products.
The winners are familiar faces in national and international beauty pageants.
Lo, a Florida-based beauty queen of Chinese, Cuban and Nicaraguan descent, was crowned as Bb. Pilipinas Grand International 2019. Her controversial journey to the Miss Grand International finals held in Caracas, Venezuela last year hogged the headlines after she was detained in Paris Airport for an alleged fake Philippine passport. Her tumultuous journey and eventual failure to making it to the first cut of the international finals led to a “state of depression,” forcing her to resign as Bb. Pilipinas titleholder.
Ajdani, a Filipino-Persian model, was selected as the country’s representative to the 2016 Mr. World Pageant held in Southport, England.
Runners-up to Lo and Ajdani were Mary Candice Ramos, 31, and Erie Matic, 41, another pair of pageant veterans.
Rounding up the finalists were: (female) Grace del Rosario, Liz Kuczera, Zai Ebido, Christine Picardal, Key Trajano and Samantha Purvor; (male) Jason Senga, Nelson Banzuela, Enzo Bonoan, Philippe Magalona, Jojo Urquico and Albert Lorenzo.
This year’s Superbods initially had a theme on how everyone can have a “superbod” through proper diet and exercise. Organizers then shifted it to promoting a “stay strong” campaign in both physical and mental well-being amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The online finals was hosted by Marc Nelson, Alden Richards and Nadine Lustre.
