“Let’s not lose sight of each other. Dapat visible po ang bawat miyembro ng pamilya sa bawat isa,” Boy Abunda said as he wrapped up the December 8 episode of “CIA with BA.” The episode addressed a family conflict involving two teenage parents, focusing on the challenges young families face, shared responsibilities, and the importance of communication.
In the “Case 2 Face” segment, Rochelle raised concerns about Renz, the teenage father of her daughter Miel’s child, claiming he was not fulfilling his financial duties. Renz’s family, represented by his mother Rhea and aunt Farrah, disputed this, asserting that they had consistently supported the child since birth.
Tensions heightened when Rochelle threatened to prevent Renz’s family from seeing the child and to put the baby up for adoption. Senator Pia Cayetano, alongside her legal team, mediated, pointing out that since both parents are minors, the entire family bears the responsibility of ensuring the child’s welfare.
Senator Pia advised that Renz and Miel temporarily separate to focus on preparing for their respective parental roles. She encouraged Rochelle to prioritize supporting Miel, while Rhea and Farrah guide Renz toward readiness for fatherhood. She also recommended drafting a written agreement to define each family member’s responsibilities, emphasizing the need to avoid language that worsens conflicts.
“It’s really a pressing concern worldwide and even in the Philippines, itong teenage pregnancies,” Senator Pia said. “Parang very timely ‘yung [appearance] nung dalawang pamilya dito. Naipakita ‘yung real situation na meron talagang mga teenagers na nabubuntis, sa madaling salita.”
She added, “And then it becomes an issue for the whole family, and we’re also hoping that it opens people’s eyes to the importance of having these honest conversations with young people to prevent teenage pregnancies from happening.”
