Public service and talk program “CIA with BA” flew to Hong Kong to fulfill the request of our fellow OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers) to be visited by Senators Alan and Pia Cayetano, and Boy Abunda.
In the first part of the special Hong Kong episode, which aired last February 2, Filipinos who moved to the so-called Asia’s World City in pursuit of a better life shared their stories.
One of the featured stories came from female professionals in the Philippines who are now working as domestic helpers in Hong Kong. Despite their jobs, they have not abandoned their professions. On their days off, they provide free services as nurses, teachers, and cancer support volunteers.
Reflecting on their dedication, Sen. Pia expressed hope that they continue to inspire others and see Hong Kong as a home away from home.
“I’m so proud of you. I hope your families recognize the sacrifices and success you made,” she told them.
Another story featured Noelyn, an OFW in Hong Kong for 11 years who was diagnosed with breast cancer. She received legal advice from Sen. Alan regarding her rights, particularly her access to health benefits. The senator and host also pledged to explore more ways to assist her.
For his part, Boy shared how special Hong Kong and its Filipino community are to him.
“Sa akin po, ang Hong Kong ay napaka-espesyal dahil nung buhay pa po ang aking ina, at tuwing kami’y dumadalaw dito, ang nanay ko sobrang tuwang-tuwa dahil nakikita niya at nakakasalamuha ang kanyang mga pamangkin—ang aking mga pinsan—na hanggang ngayon po ay domestic helpers dito. Kaya hindi po iba sa akin ang mga OFW dito sa Hong Kong,” he said.
“CIA with BA” continues the legacy of the late Senator Rene Cayetano and airs every Sunday at 11 p.m. on GMA7, with replays on GTV the following Saturday at 10:30 p.m.
