In his latest Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry, “And the Breadwinner Is…,” Vice Ganda takes a refreshing turn into drama while keeping the warmth and humor that has made him a household name. This heartwarming family story, directed by Jun Robles Lana, brings both tears and laughter as it celebrates the everyday heroes — our breadwinners.
Produced by Star Cinema and The IdeaFirst Company, the film dives into the lives of those who sacrifice so much for their families, highlighting their struggles, joys, and the often-hidden emotional toll of providing for loved ones.
Fans will see Vice Ganda in a role unlike any other — blending his signature comedic flair with raw, heartfelt moments. One of the most anticipated pairings is his reunion with award-winning actress and comedian Eugene Domingo, whose chemistry with Vice was a highlight of their previous collaborations.
“Ang storya niya masyadong personal. Kaya ‘yung iyak, sigaw, at hagulgol, hindi ko na inarte. Naisigaw ko para sa breadwinners, naiiyak ko ‘yung matagal nilang kinimkim,” Vice shared during the movie’s grand launch.
“And The Breadwinner Is…” follows Bambi (Vice Ganda), a resilient OFW in Taiwan who has dedicated her life to supporting her troubled family. After years of separation, she returns to a less-than-warm welcome, only to find that her loved ones are still burdened by debt and dysfunction. In an attempt to finally secure the dream life she’s worked so hard for, Bambi takes a gamble that could either change her family’s future or cost her dearly.
The film also stars a talented ensemble cast, including Malou De Guzman, Joel Torre, Jhong Hilario, Gladys Reyes, Maris Racal, Anthony Jennings, Kokoy De Santos, Lassy Marquez, MC Muah, Via Antonio, Kiko Matos, Argus Aspiras, Kulot Caponpon, and Eugene Domingo.
“And the Breadwinner Is..” opens in cinemas nationwide starting December 25.
