Brace for ‘Topakk’

If you’re craving hard-hitting action this Christmas, “Topakk” is sure to deliver. This high-octane entry for the Metro Manila Film Festival 2024 from Nathan Studios, Strawdogs Studio Production, FUSEE, and Theo & Atlas Productions promises a relentless, edge-of-your-seat experience.

Led by Arjo Atayde and Julia Montes, “Topakk” offers little time for respite between intense gunfights, brutal hand-to-hand combat, and shocking moments of violence, including beheadings. Atayde plays Miguel Vergara, a special forces operative who survives a rebel ambush but is deeply scarred by the brutal deaths of his comrades. Struggling with PTSD, he becomes a security guard at an abandoned warehouse, where he encounters siblings Weng (Julia Montes) and Bogs (Kokoy de Santos), who are being hunted by corrupt police officers.

Despite its fast-paced action, “Topakk” doesn’t skimp on strong performances. Enchong Dee, Sid Lucero, and Kokoy de Santos deserve special mention for their standout roles. The leads — Arjo Atayde and Julia Montes — turn in amazing performances.

The film also drives home a powerful message about the dangers of PTSD, bringing depth to the chaos onscreen. If anything, the emotional resonance of this theme alone makes the ticket price worthwhile.

“Topakk” will be released in two versions: an R-16 cut for SM cinemas and an R-18 version for other moviehouses. It hits theaters nationwide on December 25.
