Victoria Kjær Theilvig from Denmark made history as she was crowned Miss Universe 2024, becoming the first Dane to win the prestigious title. The 21-year-old dancer, who aspires to become a lawyer, was crowned at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City on November 16 (November 17, Sunday, in Manila). She was followed by Chidimma Adetshina of Nigeria as first runner-up and María Fernanda Beltrán of Mexico in third. Completing the Top 5 were Suchata Chuangsri of Thailand and Ileana Márquez of Venezuela.
The competition also recognized regional standouts. Chelsea Manalo of the Philippines was named Miss Universe Asia, Chidimma Adetshina of Nigeria was awarded Miss Universe Africa and Oceania, Matilda Wirtavuori of Finland earned Miss Universe Europe and Middle East, and Tatiana Calmell of Peru was crowned Miss Universe Americas.

This year’s Miss Universe saw a record-breaking 125 contestants, marking an increase of 41 from 2023. The event welcomed the return of countries like Cuba and Samoa after a long hiatus, alongside first-time participants. The pageant also featured several groundbreaking moments, including the oldest-ever contestant, 40-year-old Beatrice Njoya of Malta, a single mother of three and survivor of domestic and sexual abuse. Another historic milestone was achieved by Miss Universe Somalia, Khadija Omar, who became the first contestant to compete while wearing a hijab.
The three-hour event began with the swimsuit competition, narrowing the field to 30 contestants, including Miss Philippines Chelsea Manalo. However, her Miss Universe journey ended there as she did not advance to the Top 12. Those who progressed dazzled in the evening gown segment before the final five competed in the decisive question-and-answer round.
