The competition is fierce for the top acting awards at the 2025 Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival, as the festival’s awarding body has unveiled its official list of nominees.
The nominees for the festival’s acting categories represent the cream of the crop in Philippine cinema, including industry icons and young actors aiming to make their mark in the film industry.
In the “Panalong Aktres” (Best Actress) category, the nominees are Janella Salvador for “Fleeting,” Christine Mary Demaisip for “Salum,” and Ruby Ruiz for “Tigkiliwi.” For “Panalong Aktor” (Best Actor), RK Bagatsing (“Fleeting”), Khalil Ramos (“Olsen’s Day”), JP Larroder (“Tigkiliwi”), JC Santos (“Journeyman”), KD Estrada (“Co-Love”), Jameson Blake (“Co-Love”), Enzo Osorio (“Sepak Takraw”), and Allen Dizon (“Salum”) will compete for the top honors.
In the “Panalong Pangalawang Aktres” (Best Supporting Actress) category, nominees include Sherry Lara (“Olsen’s Day”), Che Ramos (“Olsen’s Day”), Gabby Padilla (“Tigkiliwi”), Jasmine Curtis-Smith (“Journeyman”), Alexa Ilacad (“Co-Love”), and Kira Balinger (“Co-Love”). The “Panalong Pangalawang Aktor” (Best Supporting Actor) category features Raffy Tejada (“Journeyman”), Romnick Sarmenta (“Olsen’s Day”), Bodjie Pascua (“Olsen’s Day”), Jeffrey Jiruma (“Tigkiliwi”), and Nathan Sotto (“Tigkiliwi”).
The full-length acting nominees were carefully selected from the seven feature films in competition this year, with a distinguished jury including renowned directors Jeffrey Jeturian and Mae Cruz-Alviar, writer and producer Moira Lang, Tiina Lokk (director of the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival), Sonny Bautista and Lyle Gonzales from Republic Creative Creations Inc., festival director Christopher Cahilig, and festival chair Ivy Hayagan-Piedad.
In the student shorts category, the nominees for “Panalong Aktres” are Shamaine Centenera-Buencamino (“Sisenta!”), Geraldine Villamil (“Uwian”), Atasha Eve Franco (“Taympers”), Sue Prado (“Sa Susunod Sisikat si Susan”), Yani Villarosa (“Si Nadia at ang Kanyang mga Kuro-Kuro”), Marian Namanama (“Champ Green”), and Angela Jane Delgado (“Daeaura”). For “Panalong Aktor,” the nominees include Lucas Martin (“Sampie”), Jasper John (“Dela Cruz, Juan P.”), Ronjaé Realubin (“Dan, En Pointe”), Ethan Lloyd Loyogoy (“Sine-Sine”), AJ Benoza (“Checkmate”), John Clark Tapales (“G!”), and Benjie Belena (“Sa Pagbunga”).
In the “Panalong Pangalawang Aktres” (Best Supporting Actress) category for student shorts, the nominees are Uzziel Delamide (“Uwian”), Miel Espinoza (“Taympers”), Zoey Lim (“SamPie”), Maria Miranda (“Our One and Only Bab(o)y”), Carla Zarcal (“Sisenta!”), Misha Fabian (“Dela Cruz, Juan P.”), and Dada Garcia (“Dela Cruz, Juan P.”). For “Panalong Pangalawang Aktor,” the nominees are Ryan John Nazario (“G!”), Chino Alfonso (“Dan, En Pointe”), Sol Eugenio (“Champ Green”), Eddie Arca (“Sine-Sine”), Esteban Mara (“Dela Cruz, Juan P.”), and Timothy Morales (“Let’s Go Somewhere Else”).
The student shorts jury is composed of esteemed directors Victor Villanueva, Tony Reyes, and Emmanuel dela Cruz; noted film critic Lito Zulueta; actress Jan Marini; as well as Hayagan-Piedad, Cahilig, Bautista, and Gonzales.
Winners will be announced at the 2025 Puregold CinePanalo Awards Night, which will take place at The Elements at Centris on March 19. Nominees, cast, and crew will be present to celebrate the best efforts in this year’s festival.
All seven full-length films and the 24 student shorts are available for viewing at Gateway Cineplex 18 in Quezon City.
The 2025 Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival is being conducted in partnership with Terminal Six, CMB Film Services Inc., Gateway Cineplex 18, MFP Rentals, MTRCB, and Mowelfund Film Institute.
