She used to be the baby of the family, but now, Kyline Alcantara has happily acknowledged that she’s been dislodged by Bumbum, her pet Corgi.
In an interview hosted by Pedigree, the actress related she gets a special kind of happiness when she is welcomed by the Corgi which she adopted from actor Rocco Nacino.
The dog is not just a pet but a family member.
“Honestly before, hindi ako naniniwala dun, ngayon grabe ang difference. As a family mas stronger ang bond,” Kyline said.
It’s no wonder Bumbum is loved. She is taken for monthly check ups, her fur is brushed once a day, and she goes on regular walks. Kyline, who admits to being a spoiler, even made sure to celebrate her 20th birthday last September 3 in a pet-friendly venue.
Bumbum has become so precious that the actress revealed she cried buckets when the dog got a cold.
“Hindi ko inexpect na iiyakan ko ang isang aso,” Kyline related, “Nung inadopt ko si Bumbum, hindi ko alam na magkakaroon ako ng ganung ka strong relationship pero nung nagkasakit siya, sabi ko, I’m gonna do everything, I’m gonna spend my money for this dog. Iba ‘yung binigay nya sa aking love and loyalty. iniyakan ko siya sobra — hagulgol levels and take note, sipon lang ‘yun.”
Vlogger Arah Virtucio also loves her dogs to bits. Her affinity for animals started in school while studying veterinary medicine.
“My love for pets started when I had my first fur baby talaga,” she related, “Pero simula nung nag-aaral pa lang ako sa vet school, I have always loved not only dogs but animals basically, because I’ve seen how majestic these creatures are talaga. Medyo biased lang ako sa dogs, kasi sila palagi kong kasama and also mas docile, mas mabait talaga. Tapos dumami na ng dumami, pati parents ko, mahilig rin sa animals, sa dogs. Walo na sila sa bahay. May puppies pa kaming bago, kasi kakapanganak nung isa kong dog.”
Expert veterinarian and Scientific Communication Manager for MARS Philippines Doctor Saza Curaming said showing affection for pets is but natural because they are really meant to be spoiled. But she cautions fur parents to be careful about what they feed their dogs.
“We should remember, that as much as we treat our pets like babies, pets have different needs from humans. All ingredients found in treats must be tested safe for pets.”
She also talked about the importance of your pet’s oral health and how neglecting it can lead to more serious diseases. “Four out of 5 dogs have periodontal disease, when they reach the age of 3 and sadly, 90% of owners think their dog’s oral health is good or perfect. Moreover, small dog breeds are even more susceptible to periodontal disease due to the structure of their mouth.”
Johnny Racoma, general manager of MARS Philippines, explained how not all pet treats are made equal. “Not all treats are the same! You can’t just give any treats to your dogs because dogs have different needs, and treats have different purposes,” he said. “When it comes to treats, we want our treats to satisfy our dogs and we want them also to address specific aspects of their health.”
With its variety of treats, Pedigree helps Filipino dog parents cater to their dogs’ specific needs. Pedigree DentaStix Chewy Chunx is a daily oral care treat that comes in a bite-sized format to help clean your canine’s teeth and improve their overall oral hygiene. It does that by reducing tartar buildup, helps clean teeth, and support’s your dog’s gum health.
Another available option is Pedigree Good Chew. It’s a long-lasting treat for dogs that love to chew. It’s free from rawhide and is made from quality ingredients like beef collagen. It’s also a deliciously long-lasting chew with a unique texture that is soft enough to chew while also being tough enough to last. It’s also easily digestible for most dogs and is tooth-friendly, too.
