Actor JM de Guzman admitted he felt trepidation when he was offered to play the role of a recovering addict in Viva Films’ “Adik sa ‘Yo.”
The actor has opened up about his bout with addiction and entering rehab in the past, so he had reservations about playing a character that underwent the same ordeal. But JM decided to trust the project and the people behind it – writer Mel Mendoza-Del Rosario and director Nuel Naval.
“Sobrang [naka-relate] ako,” he admitted at the movie’s press con on Saturday at Botejyu in Vertis North.
“Maraming trigger points. Nakita nyo yung pinasok ako dun sa parang padded room?
Nangyari talaga sa akin ‘yun. For seven days, nakakulong ako dun.
“So habang ginagawa namin ‘yang film, maraming triggers ‘yung past ko. So kahit comedy sya, personal pa rin sa akin. Trinrato ko pa rin sya na sincere.”
Unlike JM, beauty queen-turned-actress Cindy Miranda had some differences with her character Joy, who is “todo bigay” when it comes to love.
“Si Joy kababata ni Pao. She is simple, jologs, mahal na mahal si Pao as a lover, friend.
Sobrang nag ca-care kay Pao at walang pakialam sa sarili,” she described.
It is the first time that the two are paired in the movie and Cindy she felt “kilig” seeing their characters interacting in the teaser because it reminded her of how it is to be intensely devoted to someone.
“Bakit ba tayo nanunod ng movies ‘di ba? Para tumawa, para mainspire,” said Cindy. “Halo halo ang movie na ito. … Aside from nakakatawa, nakakaiyak konti, nakakakilig, sana after nung movie maging hopeful sila hindi lang sa buhay nila, pero na magmahal. Sobrang sarap pong magmahal. I think ito ‘yung naiwan sa akin sa movie na ito. “Kaya tingin ko kinikilig ako, [kasi] ang sarap magmahal, lalo na pag binibigay ko ang buong buo ko. Kasi si Joy, bourg buo talaga siya magmahal. And everytime nare-remind talaga aka sa character ko, feeling ko nagiging soft – hindi naman sa hard ako sa totoong bahay, pero kinda dahil sa pagpapalaki sa akin ng parents ko – pero si Joy kasi jologs, baklang babae, sorbing magmahal, todo, bigay lahat. Pag nare remind aka, I want to be like Joy in real life.”
JM said the movie will make the audience go through a whirlwind of emotions.
“Ma-enjoy lang nila ang pelikula, na may malungkot, may nakakatawa, may nakakakilig, nakaka inlove. May konti mang lungkot, slight lang,” he said.
“Adik Sa’Yo” is opening on April 19 in cinemas nationwide.
