TOP Shelf magazine threw a glitzy launch for its second issue at the ballroom of Seda Vertis North in Quezon City last Sunday.

The newest lifestyle magazine Top Shelf prides itself with its emphasis on inspiring and in-depth features. For its second issue, it focused on lady boss Lyn Macanas, CEO and president of Chrizmarie Builders and Construction Supply.

Lyn Macanas

Velvet Media’s marketing director Bianca Lapus, who also writes a column for Top Shelf, said Top Shelf trained its spotlight on Macanas, a single mom with four daughters and one son, because of the CEO’s inspiring rise to the top in a male-dominated industry.

“Our purpose kasi is makainspire ng maraming tao. There is so many inspiring stories like that of Madam Lyn na masarap mabasa,” said Bianca, “Sa daming problema sa mundo, when you watch the news, nakakalungkot, [we in Top Shelf want to present] something naman, naisip namin ng partner ko sa Velvet, si JJ Maghirang, why not naman something about fashion, but something about lifestyle and inspiring stories.

“I write also about family – kung anong thoughts ko sa issues.

“Our first cover is Gigi de Lana and si Madam Lyn. Our next is a celebrity, a director, writer and entrepreneur – si Bela (Padilla). Marami na kaming naka lineup. Hopefully mag yes si Vhong [Navarro, her ex-partner with whom she shares a son]. Sabi ko baka gusto mo ilabas naman ang journey mo.”

During the launch, Macanas strutted down the catwalk in a red glittery gown. She exuded power and grace as she presented her five children – Mariecris, Kyra, CJ, Hannah and Glaizah. She also acknowledged the contribution of her employees and associates in ensuring the success of their companies.

In her Top Shelf profile, Macanas recalls entering the construction industry “by accident.”

Macanas started as an OFW, before sharpening her entrepreneurial skills and entering the jewelry business.

She later met an engineer who she would assist in his business. She used her marketing skill to help the engineer, while she studied the ins and outs of the construction business.

From three employees, she now has one hundred fifty people under her.

“‘Yung pangarap kayang maabot. Ang importante aralin mo,” she said.

Because of her inspiration, two of her children are also in the construction industry. She now dabbles in vlogging and TikTok because she wants to reach more people, especially women.

“Hindi tayo mahina. Hindi tayo babae lang,” Macanas said.

Empowered women Miss Supermodel Worldwide 2022 Alexandra Rosales, Undersecretary Atty, Elaine Nathan, Dr. Shryla Santos Nunez, and Mae Evelyn Maghirang are also featured in the second issue of Top Shelf.
