Ice Seguerra mourns mother’s death amid upcoming album, concert

Filipino singer-songwriter Ice Seguerra is mourning the loss of his mother, Caridad “Mommy Caring” Yamson Seguerra, who passed away on June 27, 2025, at the age of 85.

Ice confirmed her death through a heartfelt social media post, revealing that she died at 7:54 a.m. surrounded by family. No cause of death was disclosed.

“She lived a full and beautiful life,” Ice wrote. “She was strong, kind, funny in her own quiet way, and always, always there.”

Caridad Seguerra was a familiar figure to fans of the artist, often seen accompanying Ice to performances and major life events. Ice described her as a devoted mother, his “fiercest protector” and “constant cheerleader.”

“She accepted me and embraced me for who I am, especially who I am not,” he said.

The death of Mommy Caring coincides with a major career milestone for Ice, who is preparing for a two-night concert tour this September.

Ice is also is gearing up for the August release of “Being Ice,” his first album composed entirely of original songs. The album is a deeply personal 8-track collection of all-original songs, set to launch on August 8. The album’s lead single, “Shelter of the Broken,” dropped June 28 in time for Pride Day.

More than a comeback, “Being Ice” is the first time Ice is releasing a full-length album under Ice Seguerra, and the first time he is taking complete authorship — lyrically, emotionally, artistically.

“This is the most personal I’ve ever been,” Ice said. “I’ve always written songs in bits and pieces, but this is the first time I’ve allowed the world to hear all of me — every fear, every hope, every truth — in one body of work.”

The past ten years have seen Ice in constant evolution. Beyond the music, he has emerged as a queer trailblazer, advocate and storyteller. His 2022–2023 concert “Becoming Ice” was a sold-out celebration of transition, identity and legacy. If “Becoming Ice” was about claiming space, then “Being Ice” is about living in it — completely, unapologetically.

“This isn’t just another album,” says Fire & Ice Creative Producer Liza Diño. “This is a legacy moment. After decades of interpreting other people’s stories, Ice is finally telling his own.”

The album also reunites Ice with longtime collaborator Jonathan Manalo, the country’s most-streamed songwriter and producer, along with artists Mike Villegas, Vince De Jesus, Trisha Denise, Ivan Lee Espinosa and Diño herself.

In addition to the album, Seguerra will hold a two-night concert, “Being Ice: Live,” on September 12 and 13, 2025, at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Pasay. The concert will feature tracks from “Being Ice” as well as Seguerra’s greatest hits. It will be structured in three acts: “The Roots,” “The Fire” and “The Truth.”

Caridad Seguerra is survived by her two children, Ice and Juan Carlos Miguel Seguerra. Her wake is being held at the Chapel of Selene of the Aeternitas Chapel and Columbarium, Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City until Tuesday, July 1.

Cremation will take place on July 1 at 2 p.m. at the Loyola Crematorium, also in Commonwealth.
