After a triumphant run on the primetime drama series “Royal Blood,” host-actor Dingdong Dantes is back hosting the beloved family game show, “Family Feud.”
Aside from Dingdong’s hosting prowess, viewers have been glued to the screens because of the unpredictable moments in the show. “Family Feud” has a history of delivering funny, candid, and sometimes downright controversial moments, thanks in no small part to Dingdong’s expert guidance. But how does the usually cool and composed host handle the jaw-dropping answers that contestants occasionally blurt out on the show?
“Basta tumahimik ako, wala na talaga akong masabi,” Dingdong admitted during the show’s press con last Saturday. “Minsan pa, nabubulol na lang ako, kasi hindi ko na alam nangyayari sa utak ko dahil sa sobrang shock ng narinig ko, merong mga pagkakataon.”
Dingdong’s composure while absorbing shocking answers from contestants is a testament to his experience as a host and actor. His ability to roll with the punches and keep the show running smoothly, even in the face of uproarious answers, adds to the program’s enduring appeal. He revealed some of the strategies he employ to handle them with the same grace and humor that have become his trademark.
“Well, ‘yung mga tanong, ni re-review talaga namin bago umakyat, so ina-anticipate na rin namin ng mga writers ‘yung mga posible na pwedeng mapuntahan nito,” he related, “Gusto ko ring maging handa. Halimbawa, controversial topic, pwede talagang mapunta dun kahit hindi mo sinasadya, so kailangan, aware rin ako na pag dumating sa ganung usapan, alam na natin kung paano ibalik sa kung ano dapat na tema.”
If in the beginning, he said he had some hesitation about accepting the assignment, now Dingdong has grown to love hosting “Family Feud” and looks forward to the exciting, if unpredictable answers of the contestants. “May mga pagkakataon na hindi mo maiiwasan, out of the blue biglang may susulpot. ‘Yun ‘yung exciting part sa akin – ano ‘yung maaaring isagot in the moment na mga sinasabi ng ating contestants. Minsan kasi pag kampante ka na, alam pag mo na mga nangyayari, parang boring na. Gusto mo talaga na e-excite parati, anong ibabato sa akin.”
“Family Feud” returns on GMA starting October 2. It airs Monday to Friday at 5:40 p.m.
