The House of Representatives has passed Resolution No. 2314 expressing its gratitude to ABS-CBN’s Sagip Pelikula for its “dedication and effort in the restoration of Filipino films, bringing to light the brilliance of Filipino filmmakers, actors, and storytellers.”
The resolution recognized Sagip Pelikula’s work since 2011 in partnership with Central Digital Lab, which led to the scanning, restoring, remastering, and reintroducing of 240 Filipino films to new generations.
“Sagip Pelikula restored a wide array of films across diverse genres and historical periods — from prewar titles to contemporary classics — ensuring that invaluable cinematic works were preserved for posterity,” it stated.
The film restoration initiative ended operations on March 31, 2025, after nearly 14 years. The House cited it as “the pioneering film restoration arm of ABS-CBN, with the mission of digitally restoring and remastering selected Filipino films from the extensive archives of ABS-CBN.”
Among the restored titles are “Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon?” (1976), “Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos” (1976), “Himala” (1982), “Oro, Plata, Mata” (1982), “Anak” (2000), “Tanging Yaman” (2000) and “Dekada ‘70” (2002).
The resolution was introduced by Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and 30 other representatives, including Yedda Marie Romualdez, Christopher de Venecia, Angelica Natasha Co, Ramon Jolo Revilla III, Kristine Singson-Meehan, Bryan Revilla, Rachel Marguerite Del Mar, Rufus Rodriguez and others.
In a social media post, Sagip Pelikula responded:
“This commendation is also a tribute to the dedicated individuals, past and present, who poured their hearts into this mission through the years. Together, we remain committed to safeguarding our nation’s cinematic heritage for future generations.”
Under the leadership of former head Leo Katigbak, Sagip Pelikula received multiple accolades, including the Gold Quill Award from IABC, the FDCP Lifetime Achievement Award and honors from UMPIL, PASADO and the Society of Filipino Film Reviewers.
