Grateful to still be working and on air. Those are the sentiments of veteran broadcasters Winnie Cordero and Amy Perez, who have embraced new roles at TeleRadyo Serbisyo 630 DWPM.
At a recent thanksgiving press conference hosted by the station, Winnie and Amy shared their thoughts on transitioning from ABS-CBN’s DZMM to their current platform.
Winnie, affectionately called “Mareng Winnie,” admitted she still misses DZMM and even dreams of its resurrection, though she recognizes the challenges of that happening.
“Bittersweet especially if you think about these people whom you were with in the past. Personally, nahirapan akong mag-adjust kasi, 1997 to 2021, DZMM forever.
“Actually, hanggang ngayon, I’m still hoping that the old DZMM will come back,” she said.
“We still remember the past that put smiles on our faces all the time.
For Amy, the transition has been a mix of joy and responsibility, especially in honoring those who are no longer with them.
“Masaya dahil nakikita pa rin namin ‘yung mga dati naming katrabaho and at the same time, malungkot kasi alam naming nabawasan kami pero nandito pa rin kami, lumalaban.
‘Yun din ‘yung mga inspirasyon na dala namin ngayon as we move forward with DWPM.”
Winnie now hosts the public service programs “Tatak Serbisyo” (Monday to Friday, 10:30 a.m.) and “Win Today” (Saturday, 10 a.m.). She candidly shared the challenges of her new role, including difficulties reaching government agencies and the emotional toll of certain cases. She recalled one particularly moving story involving a young boy who tragically lost his life.
Amy tackles different issues as the host of “Ako ‘To Tyang Amy,” a mental health advocacy program aired every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 3 p.m. Known affectionately as “Tyang Amy,” she also remains one of the mainstays of the Kapamilya noontime program, “It’s Showtime.”
Tyang Amy explains that she provide options based on personal experiences rather than a one-size-fits-all solution when she is asked for advice on air. She also mentions the importance of learning from listeners. “Minsan nga natututo din kami sa mga callers, so it’s a good thing that we get to learn from each other.
