GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF) acted swiftly through its Operation Bayanihan disaster relief program, extending assistance to 11,554 families across Luzon following the devastation of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.
Key areas affected included Bicol, Batangas, Cagayan, Isabela, and Quezon. Donations reached P 6.7 million by October 31, with volunteers, including Kapuso personalities, working tirelessly at the GMAKF warehouse to repack goods.
In the hardest-hit Bicol region, GMAKF distributed relief to thousands, including 2,878 families in Libon, Albay, and another 2,318 families in Camarines Sur. The foundation coordinated closely with the AFP’s Southern Luzon Command and various infantry divisions to access areas rendered difficult to reach by the storm. In Quezon province, relief operations aided over 1,200 families, while soup kitchens provided hot meals to hundreds.
The foundation also brought aid to Batangas, where severe flooding had made areas like Lipa City impassable. Relief efforts reached nearly 3,000 families across multiple municipalities. In Cagayan and Isabela, teams deployed goods and served hot meals to those in evacuation centers, bringing comfort to affected communities.
GMA stars joined the relief operations, both on the ground and at fundraising events. Sparkle Artist Center talents, along with Dingdong Dantes and Suzi Entrata-Abrera, participated in repacking activities. Telethons also saw the involvement of artists like Julie Anne San Jose, Kyline Alcantara, and Christian Bautista, who helped rally support for the initiative.
As recovery efforts continue, GMAKF has shifted focus to its Give-A-Gift Christmas Project, delivering Noche Buena packs to 4,000 schoolchildren in Camarines Sur. The foundation is also aiding rebuilding efforts in typhoon-affected Batanes by distributing food packs and construction materials to help residents recover.
