TBA Studios announced on Monday, March 17, that Iain Glen, known for his role as Jorah Mormont in “Game of Thrones,” has joined the cast of their biographical historical film “Quezon.”

Glen will portray Leonard Wood, a United States Army major who served as governor-general of the Philippines and played a significant role in Manuel Quezon’s efforts to secure Philippine independence from the United States.

Earlier this year, Glen met with the cast and crew of “Quezon” for a script reading at The Manila Hotel in Manila. Jerrold Tarog, the film’s director and co-writer, stated that Glen’s casting adds depth to the project, noting, “(Iain Glen) has gravitas. But at the same time, he can let loose, which is important for the role of Leonard Wood.”

Daphne O. Chiu, TBA Studios president and COO, expressed pride in Glen’s involvement, describing the film as one of the largest productions in Philippine cinema history. “We are excited to share with Iain — and the rest of the world — the production scale and level of artistry that Filipino filmmakers are capable of,” she said.

The film has garnered support from several Philippine government agencies, including the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), which is providing funding. Additional support comes from the Department of Tourism and the QCinema Film Foundation.

Glen joins Jericho Rosales, who will portray Philippine President Manuel L. Quezon, the film’s central figure. “Quezon” will begin production this month and will chronicle the life of Quezon, a lawyer and soldier who served as president of the Commonwealth of the Philippines from 1935 to 1944.

Beyond his role in “Game of Thrones,” Glen is recognized for his performances as Dr. Alexander Isaacs in the “Resident Evil” film series, Sir Richard Carlisle in “Downton Abbey,” Dr. Pete Nichols in Apple TV+’s “Silo” and Magnus MacMillan in Prime Video’s “The Rig.” He also voices Juste Belmont in Netflix’s animated series “Castlevania: Nocturne.”
