“Medyo bastos” — this was the initial reaction of singer Gerald Santos when he was first presented with the song “Hubad,” composed by Fed Cabahug.
Over time, however, he realized that it was actually a “well-written” piece.
“Hubad” is now available on major platforms like Spotify, iTunes, and Amazon Music, and serves as a prelude to the themes of vulnerability and strength that will take center stage in Gerald’s upcoming “Courage” concert.
“It perfectly defines me right now,” he said at a press conference last Friday at Asian Pandan in Quezon City.
Gerald shared that the transformation from being a crooner and balladeer to this new persona has been a long time coming. He revealed that years ago, Star Records had presented him with similar songs that had a similar vibe.
The “Pinoy Pop Superstar” champion now aims to project a “sexy, soulful, and daring” new image for his fans.
This newly redefined Gerald is what audiences will see at his concert, titled “Courage: A Concert and Movement to Remember.”
“Courage” is a concert that will showcase the journey of an artist who continues to evolve. Written, conceptualized, and directed by Antonino Rommel Ramilo, the event promises to reveal an entirely new side of Gerald that has never been seen before.
“Maraming unorthodox numbers na not the typical na naririnig sa akin,” said Gerald.
“I will perform APT, may dance number din at collaboration with P-pop group Aster,” he also shared.
The concert will also feature the stellar talents of special guest Sheryn Regis, as well as Elish (Aliw Awards’ Best New Female Artist 2024) and Erik Santos.
Beyond the music, the concert will also serve as the official launch of the Courage Movement, an initiative spearheaded by Gerald himself. At its core, the movement seeks to inspire individuals to embrace courage in the face of life’s challenges. It reflects Gerald’s personal journey as both an artist and a survivor. Having shared his own story of sexual abuse as a minor, he has become a source of strength and hope for other abuse victims. More than just a concert, Courage aims to spread powerful messages of resilience, healing, and the belief that even the toughest obstacles can be overcome through strength and determination.
“Tutulungan po ang mga victims ng sexual abuse, harassment. Kasi narealize ko nung lumabas ako last year how hard it was sa mga biktima kaya I want to offer in the little way I can sa mga victims,” he said.
According to Gerald, Courage aims to connect abuse victims with organizations like the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO), therapists, and other NGOs that can offer help.
“As of now, we’re partnering with PAO and we also have eventually our own legal team and psychological therapy for the victims. We are partnering with PAVE Philippines at mga NGOs,” he explained.
Tickets to “Courage,” happening on January 24 at the SM North Edsa Skydome, are available on smtickets.com.
