The trailer for new documentary feature Eraserheads: Combo on the Run will have its world premiere this July 26 at the San Diego Comic-Con, “the largest convention of its kind in the world” (Forbes), which transitioned from specialist comic-book, sci-fi, and fantasy hub to mammoth multi-genre gathering since its inception in 1970.
“Eraserheads: Combo on the” Run is written and directed by Maria Diane Ventura. It marks her first feature since 2021’s acclaimed “Deine Farbe,” which won Best German Feature at the Berlin Festival and Best Director at the International Film Festival Manhattan.
The band, composed of Ely Buendia, Buddy Zabala, Marcus Adoro and Raymund Marasigan, currently on their Huling El Bimbo world tour sweeping cities of US and Canada, will also be featured in an SDCC-exclusive issue of hit Filipino-American indie comic The Legendary Lumpia Squad. At the same time, a panel dedicated to the “Lumpia universe” is also scheduled on July 26, 7-8pm, at Room 6 BCF of the San Diego Convention Center.
Ely, the Eraserheads’ singer and chief songwriter, will grace the panel alongside “Lumpia Squad” creator Patricio Ginesla and legendary artist Whilce Portacio (X-Men, Stone). Ely will also be at the exclusive autograph signing slated on July 27.
Known for dominating Pinoy alt-rock in the ’90s and beyond, Buendia and his bandmates Raymund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala, and Marcus Adoro are considered music superheroes by fans back home and the global Filipino diaspora.
Production on Eraserheads: Combo on the Run began during preparations for the 2022 Manila staging of Huling El Bimbo, a monumental event that offered respite to a nation still grappling with the effects of a divisive political year. The documentary delves into how this “unlikely group of disbanded punks” provided healing while grappling with their own struggles.
Eraserheads: Combo on the Run is brought to you by Dvent Pictures and WEU, and produced by Ely Buendia and Voyage Studios. The trailer will be available to the public on July 27 on the Eraserheads’ and DVent Picture’s official YouTube channels.
