After capturing the airwaves with her unique voice, Visayan warmth and charming beauty, Debbie Lopez is now setting her sights on a new spotlight — the world of acting.
Known as a radio anchor, recording artist, cosplayer and a billboard favorite, Debbie has long been a familiar voice to many, but now she’s ready to be seen, not just heard.
At her recent birthday celebration at Symphony Towers in Quezon City, the multi-talented artist shared an exciting career shift. Surrounded by supporters and media friends, Debbie revealed her growing desire to enter showbiz as an actress — a dream ignited by the encouragement of talent manager and veteran entertainment personality Ogie Diaz.
“Sarap kasi nung na-workshop ako before kay Mama Ogie Diaz,” Debbie began, glowing as she recalled the pivotal moment. “Tapos tinanong niya ako, two times niya akong tinanong, sabi niya, ‘Debbie, gusto mo bang mag-artista?’ Natulala ako.”
Her initial reaction was shock and gratitude.
“To be honest, sabi ko, ‘Mama Og, thank you so much po for the opportunity.’ Tapos lately sina Mama Og and [his sister] Ate Ellen, sabi ko, ‘Ate Len, baka naman ma-consider ako na isa sa mga talents niya.’”
Debbie, ever the open-hearted dreamer, said she is more than ready — especially if Ogie Diaz officially manages her.
“If given the opportunity po from Mama Ogie Diaz as a manager, tatanggap po ako. Ready na po ako mag-artista,” she said with excitement. “Pero DJ pa rin po ako ngayon, nagra-radio show pa rin sa Baguio, every Sunday sa Radyo Agila Net 25.”
When asked about the genre she’d like to pursue, she answered with a laugh:
“Comedy po! Kasi gusto talaga ni [late] Wally Peralta before na maging sexy-comedienne ako. Ready naman po ako magpa-sexy kung kailangan — pero hanggang saan?” she said cheekily, referring to her online persona.
She even shared a wishlist of co-stars she’d love to work with:
“Si Alden Richards, gusto ko talaga. At si Empoy! Lagi ko siyang sinasagot. Sa babae naman, gusto ko ‘yung mga bagets din. Si Belle Mariano — yung fresh faces.”
But while Debbie’s excitement for the future is palpable, her journey has not been without heartbreak. She opened up about being taken advantage of early in her career.
“Marami kasi silang nagsamantala sa akin,” she admitted. “Kasi mabait po talaga ako. Mabilis ako magtiwala. Pero natuto na ako ngayon.”
She revealed she was financially exploited by industry people who promised to promote her songs but never followed through.
“Hindi ko alam na pinaperahan na pala ako. Ang sakit, kasi sabi nila, ipopromote daw ‘yung kanta ko… pero hindi naman. Ang ending, wala akong na-promote na album,” she said. “Naka-half million din po ang nawala sa akin.”
Despite those painful experiences, Debbie has choosen to focus on moving forward.
“Wala naman po akong sama ng loob. Sabi ng kapatid ko, ‘Yung pera, kikitain mo rin.’ And now, I’m very blessed.”
When asked for her birthday wish, her answer was crystal clear:
“Maging successful lang po. Gusto ko na talaga mag-artista.”
