Philippine cinema is set to make a global impact with “Crosspoint,” a groundbreaking film that captivated audiences and distributors at the Asian Content & Film Market (ACFM) in Busan, South Korea. Directed by Japan-based filmmaker Donie Ordiales and produced by High Road Creatives in collaboration with Japan’s 034Productions, Crosspoint is ready to redefine the Filipino film industry. Represented by Fire and Ice Sales for world sales, the film is scheduled to premiere in Philippine cinemas today, October 16.
Starring acclaimed Filipino actor Carlo Aquino and Emmy-nominated Japanese actor Takehiro Hira, “Crosspoint” is a thrilling story of struggle and redemption. The film follows Manuel Hidalgo (Aquino), a once-famous Filipino actor who relocates to Japan after his career falters. Surviving by performing in Filipino pubs, Manuel’s life intersects with Shigeru (Hira), a construction manager on the brink of bankruptcy. Together, they seize an opportunity to change their lives when they recognize a serial killer on the news and aim to claim the reward money.
“Crosspoint” made a strong impression at ACFM with its high production values, engaging storytelling, and universal appeal. Distributors from across the globe were drawn to the film’s powerful narrative and outstanding performances. The film offers a fresh take on the crime drama genre, standing out in a market often dominated by romantic comedies and traditional dramas.
Even Filipino delegates at ACFM expressed their admiration for the film, particularly for its quality and international production standards.
The success of “Crosspoint” at the ACFM market highlights the growing competitiveness of Filipino films on the global stage.
Director Donie Ordiales, whose characters were inspired by real people he met in Japan, emphasized the film’s message of impermanence. “Nothing in life is permanent. Crosspoint explores the profound ways our lives can change in an instant,” he said. Ordiales is proud of the international cast and crew who helped bring this unique narrative to life.
While the film has already garnered interest from streaming platforms like Netflix for a potential release next year, the priority focus remains on its theatrical debut in the Philippines and other SEA countries including Japan.
