The Manila International Book Fair 2025 will showcase the launch of Ricky Lee’s Agaw Tingin, Atom Araullo’s A View from the Ground and a commemorative book on the MMFF.
The Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) 2025 is set to become a literary extravaganza, bringing together book lovers, authors and publishers from September 10 to 14 at the SMX Convention Center Manila. “Agaw Tingin” by National Artist Ricky Lee (University of the Philippines Press). An anthology of nonfiction pieces written by National Artist Ricky Lee for various publications, including Asia-Philippines Leader, TV Weekly and Metro Magazine, this collection of “stolen glances” offers fleeting glimpses into people, places and incidents that redirect the reader’s attention to often-overlooked aspects of life. A journalist since the 1970s, Lee has brought real-life experiences to the page, reviving voices, conveying emotions and allowing truth to resonate.


Through “Agaw-Tingin,” Lee showcases his mastery of observation, listening and storytelling, skills which have shaped not only his award-winning screenplays and novels but also his compassion for humanity and his native tongue. The launch of “Agaw-Tingin” promises to be an unforgettable experience, featuring special readings and performances from notable celebrities, including Luis Alandy, Kyline Alcantara, Dulce, Arman Ferrer, Chai Fonacier, Agot Isidro, Jolina Magdangal, Judy Ann Santos, Meryll Soriano, Jericho Rosales and Michael V. hosted by Phi Palmos and Jackie Lou Blanco on September 12, 3-5 pm at the Ground Floor Main Stage, SMX Convention Center-MOA.
“A View from the Ground” by Atom Araullo (University of the Philippines Press). A collection of narrative journalism focused on people living on the margins of society, “A View from the Ground” is based on years of field reporting, covering themes such as displacement, public health, education, armed conflict and environmental degradation. Each piece is carefully crafted to place the reader at the heart of the story, highlighting the courage of ordinary people in the face of extraordinary hardship.

The book features documentary photographs taken by Araullo, providing a visceral understanding of the realities faced by many Filipinos. Through his words and images, he offers a nonfiction storytelling style that is not found in today’s media landscape. “A View from the Ground” is a testament to Araullo’s commitment to telling the stories that need to be told.

“50 Years of the Metro Manila Film Festival” by MMDA/ MMFF and ABS-CBN Publishing. A celebration of five decades of the MMFF, the book traces MMFF’s roots and explores the legalities behind its existence. This highlights the festival’s biggest box-office draws and showcases some of the best Filipino films of all time, including “Himala,” “Moral,” “Brutal,” “Bona,” “Kisapmata,” “Jose Rizal” and significant anthologies and franchises like “Shake, Rattle & Roll,” “Panday,” “Mano Po” and so much more.
It also examines the evolution of the MMFF, from its humble beginnings to its current status as the biggest and most successful local film festival in the country.
