CCP Lakbay Cine’s free film screenings

CCP Lakbay Cine will screen back-to-back lineup of award-winning local films for free this coming February 22, 23, and 24 in venues across Metro Manila, showcasing the best of Filipino filmmaking.

Lakbay Sine, an initiative of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Film, Broadcast, and New Media Division, aims to promote Filipino cinema and foster film appreciation among diverse audiences, particularly the youth.

The program kicks off at the University of Santo Tomas with the screening of “Liway” by Kip Oebanda on February 22. This compelling film depicts the struggles of a family living in a makeshift prison during Martial Law, highlighting the sacrifices of a mother for her child.

On February 23, St. Paul University in Quezon City hosts back-to-back screenings starting with “Blue Room” by Ma-an L. Asuncion-Dagñalan, followed by a special screening of “Anak” written by National Artist Ricky Lee, in collaboration with ABS-CBN Sagip Pelikula.

“Anak,” starring Vilma Santos and Claudine Barretto, portrays the challenges faced by an overseas Filipino worker upon her return to her family. This screening is part of CCP Cine Icons, a program honoring National Artists Nora Aunor, Marilou Diaz-Abaya, and Ricky Lee.

Concluding the series on February 24 at the Valenzuela City Library, CCP Lakbay Sine presents Cinema Under The Stars (CUTS), featuring “Dinig Sana Kita” by Mike Sandejas.

This pioneering film explores the love story between a deaf boy and a troubled rocker girl, offering a unique perspective on communication and connection.
