Get ready to laugh, cry and be inspired because Kapitana Entertainment Media proudly presents “Isang Komedya sa Langit,” a historical fiction-comedy set in the Spanish era. The film is uniquely a heartwarming blend of comedy, fantasy and drama.

At the heart of the film is veteran actor Jaime Fabregas, who takes on the role of Father Emanuel Garcia.

Also starring in the film is rising talent Aki Blanco, portraying Brother Marco. The film’s ensemble cast is further strengthened by performances from Edgar Allan “EA” Guzman, John Medina and Gene Padilla, each adding their own vibrant flavor to the story.

Carmi Martin plays Naty, a part originally offered to Nova Villa. Embracing the project without hesitation, the actress saw great promise in the film’s story.

When the role was first offered to Carmi in July 2024, she was shuttling her time between her TV5 sitcom, “Ang Himala ni Niño” and the Netflix film, Jason Paul Laxamana’s “Sosyal Climbers” at the same time.

“Sabay sabay when I did everything,” Carmi lamented. “I was still taking up acting workshop continuously. I’m very passionate with that.

“I accepted ‘Isang Komedya sa Langit’ because it was going to be a challenge for me. I am not typecasted as a rich, sosyal and sexy lady or a former beauty queen.

“I personally prepared my bags for my roles, with three different sets of wardrobe with the names of my characters. So even my helper will not pick out the wrong bag for my shooting with the correct tag for the project.”

Now that she’s a senior citizen, Carmi, at 61, does not live with a “plus one” partner at home. “That’s better for me,” she said.

A Born-Again Christian, Carmi is careful about accepting and playing just any role. “I recently accepted a role that is mama-san and we shot in Japan,” she said.

“But I’m very particular about the role. It was about OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers) and it has a nice message.

“[That’s why I always ask] ‘Tell me exactly what is my role so I will not make a scene when I arrive on the set. I don’t want to back out because the role is against my Christian faith’.”

Writer-producer Rossana Hwang of Kapitana Entertainment Media earned the tag “Kapitana,” when she was elected barangay captain in Dasmariñas Village, Makati during the pandemic, that lasted for three years.

“I was a kagawad even before,” Rossana disclosed. “During the lockdown, when we were not doing much, I decided to write my book.”

“The Lost Saints” released in 2022 promises a light-hearted yet thought-provoking journey through time, faith and the Filipino spirit.

Rossana wrote the script for “Isang Komedya sa Langit,” financed the film, supervised the production, worked as costume designer, costume master and even as location manager.

She earlier produced “The Women of Tonta Club” (2021), a comedy about the friendship and challenges of women working together in a socio-civic organization. Nova Villa, Tetchie Agbayani and Tina Paner lead the cast, with Xion Lim at the helm.

Director Roi Paolo Calilong did not have a hard time working with his actors. “My actors, from day one, came prepared to the set,” shared Direk Roi. “We employed a number of extras. Hindi talaga sila umaarte, so they want to just be in the scene.”

Nearly two decades ago in 2008, director Roi Paolo Calilong started in theater and became a regular actor in PETA (Philippine Educational Theater Association).

The discipline in theater undoubtedly helped Roi when he eventually transitioned to directing.

“Even the art form, how to mount the scenes, really helped me,” said Roi. “That became my strength and I was able to apply that when I started to become an assistant director.”

Eventually, Roi became an assistant director for television and worked with the likes of Bert de Leon, Phillip Lazaro and Chris Martinez.

“That’s why comedy, sitcom and gag shows ang naging training ko,” he disclosed.

Roi also assisted Direk Chris in the iWant TFC TV series, “Mga Batang Poz” (2019).
