Sunot had been candid about her health struggles in her final weeks, sharing her journey with fans. She had been battling both lung and breast cancer and underwent surgery but her condition continued to decline.
Mercy was a key member of Aegis, performing alongside her siblings Juliet and Ken Sunot and guitarist-vocalist Rey Abenoja. The band also included Stella Pabico on keyboards, Rowena Adriano on bass guitar, and Vilma Goloviogo on drums.
Aegis started performing as a band in Japan before returning to the Philippines and finding widespread acclaim in the 1990s.
