ABS-CBN is set to hold its first major event on the African continent with “Kapamilya Live in Kenya,” a historic fan meet featuring two of the network’s biggest stars — Coco Martin and Julia Montes.
The milestone event, scheduled for June 28 at the Nairobi Cinema, serves as a gesture of gratitude to African audiences for their unwavering support of Filipino programs through the years. The Philippines’ leading content provider has enjoyed a growing fanbase in Africa since its shows began airing on local platforms in 2003.
“We’re excited to finally thank them personally for their support. We can’t wait to meet the people who have been unexpectedly captivated by our characters and the Filipino stories showcased in ABS-CBN’s series,” said Coco in an interview with ABS-CBN News.
“It feels good because this is our chance to give back to them. It’s our turn to return the favor and we hope we can make them happy,” added Julia.
Martin and Montes rose to fame in the region through ABS-CBN primetime hits such as “Walang Hanggan” (“My Eternal”), “Doble Kara,” and “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” (“Brothers”), which remain popular among African audiences and continue to air via the StarTimes channel, one of Africa’s largest digital TV operators.
Currently airing in Africa is Martin’s action-drama “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo” (“Gangs of Manila”), while a re-run of “Walang Hanggan” is scheduled to premiere in July. Montes’ critically acclaimed drama “Saving Grace” is also slated for release in September.
To deliver the event to more viewers, ABS-CBN has partnered with StarTimes as a major sponsor. Kenya’s leading television station, KTN, will provide live news coverage of the event.
ABS-CBN’s well-loved shows have been captivating African households for over two decades. Among its more recent titles that have aired in various African countries are “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “Lavender Fields,” “What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim” and “Senior High.”
