The legendary OPM rock band Aegis is set to make a grand comeback with their much-anticipated concert, “Aegis: Halik sa Ulan: A Valentine Special,” on February 1-2, at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City. This two-night event promises to be a celebration of timeless music and heartfelt performances by Aegis, composed of Juliet and Ken Sunot (vocalists), Stella Pabico (keyboardist), Vilma Goloviongo (drummer), Weng Adriano (bassist), and Rey Abenoja (lead guitarist).
Fans can expect to hear iconic anthems such as “Basang-Basa sa Ulan,” “Luha,” “Sayang na Sayang,” and many more, bringing a wave of nostalgia and emotion to the stage.
Each night will feature a unique lineup of guest artists. On February 1, the phenomenal Morissette Amon will perform, alongside rising band Formula 5 and a surprise OPM legend. On February 2, Ogie Alcasid, Jona, Julie Anne San Jose, and Formula 5 will captivate the audience with their exceptional talents.
In addition to the electrifying performances, Aegis will pay tribute to the late vocalist Mercy Sunot, whose legacy continues to inspire the group. Part of the proceeds from the concerts will go to Mercy’s family, ensuring her memory lives on through music.
Director Frank D. Mamaril spoke about the emotional significance of the tribute, explaining that it was crucial for the band. “Definitely, it’s essential. It’s a must for a concert like this, especially since the Sunot siblings were very close. I’ve seen their bond firsthand. Even during their pictorial, they were emotional, knowing Mercy’s condition. The tribute will be meaningful and heartfelt. You’ll feel her presence throughout the concert.”
He added that, in the wake of Mercy’s passing, it was important to support the members of Aegis, especially the Sunot siblings. “The band members are incredibly professional. I made sure to balance the emotional moments with uplifting parts so they could perform while honoring Mercy. It’s a very emotional process, especially for Juliet, who is deeply moved by her sister’s passing. It’s difficult, but we’ve made sure the concert will celebrate Mercy’s legacy while giving the band the space they need to heal.”
Direk Frank has his own memories of Mercy. “During the pandemic, we would go live on Kumu and duet together. Those are some of my fondest memories with her, and I carry those with me as we perform these songs.”
The concert, produced by Cues + Fues Advertising, Inc. and directed by FLM Creatives & Productions, Inc., is co-presented by LAGUNDEX and ACETAFFEIN, with support from sponsors such as Uratex Monoblock, Power Melo, Boss Max3, Newport World Resorts, and Viva Café.
