CIVIL Service Commission Chair Karlo Nograles has lauded the cooperation of thousands of government workers from various agencies that ensured the success of the week-long Linggo ng Malasakit sa Kalikasan as part of the celebration of the 124th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary (PCSA).
The CSC chief announced on the weekend edition of the Ulat sa Bayan that 17 municipalities in the provinces of Rizal and Laguna simultaneously undertook tree-growing activities, resulting in the planting of 15,000 bamboo propagules and 1,200 fruit-tree seedlings.
In addition, local government units and the regional offices of different agencies also held their own tree-growing and coastal clean-up activities from September 15 to 21.
Aside from volunteers who showed up for the trash collection in Manila Bay led by the Philippine Coast Guard and the City of Manila, other LGUs all over the country also cleared washed-up junk in their respective shore areas.
Launching their own coastal clean-ups were Sanchez Mira in Cagayan, Pinamalayan in Occidental Mindoro, and Legazi City in Albay in Luzon; Toleo City and Carcar City in Cebu; San Carlos City and Bago City in Negros Occidental in Visayas; and Malalag in Davao del Sur, Gingoog City in Misamis Oriental, Pagadian City in Agusan del Norte in Mindanao.
Carcar City, Gingoog City, and Capiz State University held their respective mangrove planting in local coastal zones.
The CSC activity was held in coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA).
Nograles said the fourth and last phase of the 124th PCSA Celebration starts this week with a focus on developing human resources.
To kick the week off is the 2024 Leaders and Human Resource Symposium to be held from September 24 to 25 in Pasay City with live online streaming on the commission’s social media pages.
Nogrles hailed the event as the biggest gathering of leaders and HR practitioners in the country and the ASEAN Region.
Part of the activities is the recognition of government agencies that have responded the fastest to queries, requests for assistance, and complaints sent through the CSC’s Contact Center ng Bayan hotline and online platforms.
