PRESIDENT Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos led the country in congratulating and sending accolades to Carlos Edriel Yulo for bagging the first gold medal of the Philippines in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The President took to social media to laud Yulo, saying he expects more similar awards from the rest of the Philippine team.
“We’ve witnessed history as Carlos Yulo clinched the Philippines’ first gold medal in artistic gymnastics at the Paris 2024 Olympics. I am confident that it will not be the last.
Congratulations, Caloy! The entire country stands proud with you!” Marcos said.
Araneta-Marcos, also on social media, said she had goosebumps when the national anthem, Lupang Hinirang, was played shortly after the gold medal was presented to Yulo.
“Congratulations Carlos Yulo. You gave us the first gold medal at the Paris Olympics 2024!
Woo hoo!! Got goosebumps as Lupang Hinirang played at the arena! We are so proud of you!” Araneta-Marcos said in her post that included emojis of clapping hands, raised hands and gold.
Yulo scored 15.000, besting entries from Spain, Israel, China, the United Kingdom, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine.
With his victory, Yulo is expected to receive P10 million in incentive from the government.
The House of Representatives has also promised a P3 million reward for Yulo.
