‘[W]ill Ms. Ai Ai de las Alas somehow feel insecure as GMA will now have two comediennes?’

THERE are so many speculations as to who the Kapamilya stars that would next transfer to GMA-7 are. There are those who say it’s John Lloyd Cruz (after Willie Revillame got him to guest in his show), or Piolo Pascual or Bea Alonzo.

Sorry, but we heard the Kapamilya stars who are sure to become a Kapuso are comedienne Pokwang and “Pinoy Big Brother” discovery Beauty Gonzales who’d be appearing in their respective soaps soon. Both of them have done shows on TV5 and now that their shows there are over, they have set their sights on GMA to give them work.

Pokwang has already posted her photo on Instagram with GMA on the background. We cannot blame her for being a butterfly that flies from one network to another as she is a working mother and breadwinner, so she has to have a regular income for her family. The same goes for Beauty who is also married with a daughter.

But with Pokwang now also on GMA, will Ms. Ai Ai de las Alas somehow feel insecure as GMA will now have two comediennes? Ai Ai’s edge, of course, is that she has a regular job as a judge/mentor in “The Clash” which is now auditioning contestants for its fourth season.

Ella Cruz won a best supporting actress award for “Edward” and she got more acclaim playing the role of a medium in “Biyernes Santo.” She now plays the most challenging role in her career as Angel, an Aeta girl in “Gluta,” the newest movie of Viva‘s busiest writer-director Darryl Yap whose works are being shown in quick succession, almost every other week on VivaMax. How’s it working with Darryl?

“He helps me build the character of Angel. Tinulungan niya ako kasi sobrang bago sa’kin to play an Aeta role. They think puro kalokohan ang ginagawa niya, but he has a serious message in every movie of his.”

“Gluta” tells the story an Aeta native who dreams of being a beauty queen. The mean girls in their school include her as a candidate in their Miss University pageant to shame her. Expectedly, she is ridiculed for her dark skin, but she’s very confident that she is beautiful and she will prove to her doubters one day that she can win in a beauty contest.

“I feel proud to be in this movie as it has a timely message about discrimination. We just saw that sa recent Miss Universe, grabe ang racism ng mga tao kay Miss Canada who’s black. My character here is very positive and this is a reminder for everyone na may insecurities sa katawan.”

Has she herself ever tried gluta skin whitening? “No, but I admit na noon, marami akong insecurities kasi maliit ako, maraming mas maganda sa’kin, but you should realize and accept your own talent, like I know magaling akong sumayaw at marami naman akong projects at movies.”

Ella is supported in the movie by the comebacking Cristina Gonzales as her teacher, Arlene Muhlach as their school principal, Juliana Segovia as her Uncle Goliath who’s secretly gay, former PBB housemate Marco Gallo as her admirer named Bambino who starts out just toying with her feelings but later stands up for her. Streaming on Vivamax starting July 2, “Gluta” imparts an important message: “Walang kulay ang kaligayahan.”

Max Collins is currently being seen regularly in the replay of “Innamorata” on GMA-7, but she has now also started lock in taping for a new soap, “To Have and To Hold.” This is her comeback project after giving birth to her and Pancho Magno’s first child, Skye Anakin, who was born in July of last year. She admits having some anxiety leaving her son while she’s on lock-in taping, but she’s confident hubby Pancho will take good care of their baby.

In “To Have and to Hold,” she will share topbilling with Carla Abellana and Rocco Nacino.

Max and Rocco first got to work together in the soap “The Good Daughter” in 2012. “To Have and to Hold” was first assigned to Derek Ramsay, who’s now so busy with Ellen Adarna so he backed out.

In “To Have and To Hold,” Max and Rocco will play a married couple, Dominique and Gavin Ramirez. They seem so happy together but a big scandal will tear their relationship apart.

Carla will play Erica Gatchalian, a woman who will later figure in Rocco’s life. All the show’s cast and crew underwent the required swab test before the taping started and all of them got negative results.
