‘The two camps are now about to “kill” each other through impeachment, disqualification.’
THE huge spoils of victory are now the targets of the two most powerful political clans today. Rep. Martin Romualdez has already mobilized his allies to block Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as speaker. A move to impeach Marcos, Jr. is reportedly being planned by President Duterte’s camp. Pro-BBM Migz Zubiri is poised to be Senate president to forestall any attempt at impeachment. Does the President have credible evidence that Marcos Jr. is into drugs?
Presumptive president Bongbong Marcos promptly appointed presumptive vice president Sara Duterte as secretary of Education after it became clear that she wanted to be secretary of defense. The plan to designate Mikey Arroyo as energy secretary was also scuttled.
But, the impeachment plan seems not to be taking off, forcing the other camp to go after the presumptive-elect through disqualification or cancellation of the certificate of candidacy.
Once Marcos, Jr.. takes the oath of office, the SC justices are expected to be loyal to him after June 30. So, a decision must be issued by the SC earlier than June 30. To ensure that VP Leni Robredo will not succeed as second placer, Mayor Sara will take her oath as the new VP on June 19, not on June 30, which may violate the Constitution since VP Leni is still sitting. Now, we know that if Sarah and BBM did not join forces, VP Leni could have won, and if Manny Pacquiao had backed out, as the statistics showed, it would have been a Robredo victory.
The two camps are now about to “kill” each other through impeachment, disqualification, or even a coup d’état. The President hasn’t even congratulated the presumptive winner.

The following is a portion of a moving letter penned by professor emeritus Emmanuel S. de Dios for his students at UP Diliman. “At every moment we should not be afraid to call out and resist these – because we remain free and it is within our rights to be so and act accordingly. Remember this is not 1972. You cannot remain afraid or be apathetic because there is both the need and opportunity to combat the past wrongs that have plagued our society as well as the new ones that are about to overlay them. Your knowledge and creativity can slowly reverse the poison that has taken hold of the minds of many. Your effort and enthusiasm can turn back attempts to return to the days of corruption, cronyism, and injustice. Before you can do any of this, however, remember to be kind to yourself, first of all. Mend your spirit, recharge your brains, strengthen your hearts. Spend time on the things which you have control of and which give you simple pleasures, seek the company of family members and friends who will be a source a source of comfort. Devote time to improve your personal health, your mental and physical skills, your cultural perspective.
Only when you feel good enough about yourself can you even begin to think about helping other people – and beyond that, our country.
“Take heart that we are, after all, not being called upon to risk our lives to gain freedom, as in 1896, or in the Second World War, or the years of dictatorship. How you contribute will be as varied as your personalities, skills and circumstances will allow: from joining organizations and volunteer groups to help the poor neglected by government. to speaking out and correcting lies on social media; standing your ground against anomalies if you happen to be in government, to practicing your profession honestly amid material challenges to your morals; down to simply discussing with friends and family in the hope they might find their way to the truth. We are called upon not to fight for freedoms which are being denied us, or which do not exist. We are asked only to defend the freedoms we already have by using them to the full. It is by not by using them that we risk losing them.”
