Pontificating

It’s never helpful nor encouraging to pontificate. Looking down our noses at people, thinking we’re superior or more spiritual than them, talking down to them isn’t going to make the world a better place.

When Christians say “God is sovereign” it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re defeatists, cowards, overspiritualizing, etc. –and not doing anything to help themselves, help others, or correct something that’s wrong.

For instance, I have a friend who has been saying “God is sovereign” in negative situations where even his own life was in danger. Yet – did he just sit in a corner and wait to be ambushed? Did he just ask his bodyguards to surround him and tell them, “God is sovereign”???

He did not. That’s why he’s still alive and well. He was very pro-active, intelligent and shrewd about protecting himself and his family. But if you ask him now – “What if you were killed even with all the precautions you took?”

I’m sure his answer would be – “God is sovereign.”

In recent events, I have friends who say “God is sovereign,” but they are there – right in the thick of the fight, sweating it out, giving up nights of sleeping comfortably at home – just to see for themselves that our votes are being protected. From the bunkers, in the trenches, in active duty, they’re saying whatever happens, “GOD IS SOVEREIGN.”

When we say “God is sovereign,” it means we are trusting God to apply His perfect will in any situation – because He is all-powerful, all-present, all-wise.

It doesn’t mean we’re copping out. Please be careful not to judge people because you don’t know what they’re doing privately.

It’s easy to pontificate and just text away our opinions from the safety and comfort of our homes – without being in the thick of the hard, hard work that others are doing right now to protect our votes, our freedom.

Be careful what you say.
