Growing up in showbiz with a number of successful relatives in the business did not exactly mean Janine Gutierrez had an easy time when she decided to follow in their footsteps.
Both her parents, Lotlot de Leon and Ramon Christopher “Monching” Gutierrez, used to play leads. So did her grandparents. Janine’s maternal grandmother is of course, superstar Nora Aunor. Her lolo is actor of note Christopher de Leon.
In her father’s side, she had timeless chanteuse Pilita Corrales and extremely handsome actor Eddie Gutierrez. Eddie’s kids Ruffa, Richard and Raymond Gutierrez are Janine’s aunt and uncles.
While growing up, Janine once related in an interview, she never entertained the idea of following in their footsteps. Not even if many believed that she could very well be in showbiz, too.
“I was determined instead to finish college. And, happily, my parents were for it, too,” she said. “Sabi nila, frustration nila ang makatapos ng pag-a-aral. But showbiz beckoned.”
Janine finished Bachelor of Science in International Studies at the Ateneo de Manila University, no less. How she became an actress after college, she’d rather not explain.
“As it is kasi, happy naman ako being part of the business,” said the newly-signed Kapamilya artist. Her transfer is another story she’d rather not expound about.
“Ang mahalaga, all the members of my family are happy for me. At ganun din si Rayver (Cruz), my boyfriend,” she said.
Rayver remains a Kapuso, though.

Andi Eigenmann and fiancé Philmar Alipaya welcomed their son on Sunday, January 17.
Baby Koa has two siblings, Lilo and Ellie. Lilo is Andi and Philmar’s daughter. Ellie is Andi’s 9-year-old daughter with ex-boyfriend Jake Ejercito, who is the son of former President and Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada and former actress Laarni Enriquez.
A master degree holder from a university in Singapore, Jake has just appeared in a movie, “Coming Home,” an entry in the recent Metro Manila Film Festival. We wonder what’s next for him, though, since report has it that his show, “Sunday Noontime Show” (SNL), which premiered October 18, has been cancelled.
SNL, directed by Johnny Manahan, also starred Maja Salvador, Catriona Gray and Piolo Pascual.

Following the end of TV5’s “Sunday Noontime Show,” the actor-host is said to be returning to ABS-CBN.
Did we hear it right that Piolo is returning to ABS-CBN and might start work on a new project?
Lucky for the actor-host-singer, he does not seem to age at all. The 44-year-old continues to be very in demand and remains very good-looking, commented a kibitzer.
“Sayang lang at wala yata siyang balak mag-asawa,” the kibitzer continued. “He seems contented being father to his only son, Iñigo, who has chosen to remain with ABS-CBN, even after Piolo’s decision to try his luck with TV5.
“Na obviously, nabulilyaso din.”
Now starting to make a name as an international singer, Iñigo continues to be seen every Sunday in “ASAP Live.”
Inigo’s mom, who lives abroad, is not from showbiz.

In the papers recently was the report that Senator William Gatchalian’s credit card was reportedly hacked. He lamented that hackers ordered food and liquor worth P1 million and has called for a senate probe, after getting reports on the rise in payment fraud from netizens.
Speaking of the senator, we wonder if he and his girlfriend, actress Bianca Manalo, may soon tie the knot. Bianca reportedly has resigned from “FPJ’s Ang Probinsiyano,” which is topbilled by Coco Martin. Yassi Pressman has also left the long-running series.
There is no explanation from the two for their recent decision.

Since Sheryl Cruz separated from her husband, Norman Bustos, she has not been linked to anyone.
She returned home from San Francisco to the Philippines years ago.
The actress tried to have her own business. She also resumed her showbiz career.
Last year, Sheryl and Norman saw their daughter, Ashley, finish her studies in the US.
Sheryl is back in the country and has resumed work on her series, “Magkaagaw,” where she is paired with 28-year-old actor Jeric Gonzales.
Sheryl, 46, and Jeric are now being rumoured to be seeing each other.
“It is not true,” she insisted.
Maybe their steaming love scenes in “Magkaagaw” have made people think there is more than meets the eye between the two.
